The West Bengal Board of Primary Education is a statutory autonomous body constituted under the West Bengal Board of Primary Education Act 1973. The Board since its Inception in 1990 has been striving hard for achieving qualitative improvement in the sphere of primary education in West Bengal. The Board has undertaken various programmes aimed at reaching universal enrolment, universal retention and universal achievement at the primary level. For this, the Board prepares and revises curriculum, syllabi and textbooks for the classes I to V. The Board also prepares subject specific training and orientation – modules/packages for training/orientation of primary teachers in our state. Above all the Board prepares and updates from time to time the curriculum and syllabi of primary teachers training courses and conducts the primary teachers training examination. Quality and professional competence, beside whole-hearted commitment of teachers, are the key factors in providing a high standard of education and helping the students to develop their personality with a sound knowledge of pedagogy.
