Shiv Nadar University, also known as Shiv Nadar Institute of Eminence or SNU Gautam Buddha Nagar, was established in 2011. It is a private, multidisciplinary, and research-focused university founded under the Shiv Nadar Foundation. The foundation was created by Mr. Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, with a strong vision to support quality education and social development in India and across the world. The university aims to educate future leaders who are responsible, ethical, and capable of making a positive impact on society. It follows a student-centric learning approach and focuses on academic excellence, research, and innovation.

Shiv Nadar University has four main schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Management and Entrepreneurship, along with the Academy of Continuing Education. The university was the first in India to introduce a 4-year multidisciplinary research degree, marking a major milestone in higher education.

The university has received national and global recognition. It is the youngest university in India to be awarded the status of Institute of Eminence by the Government of India. As per NIRF Rankings 2025, Shiv Nadar University is ranked 57th under the University category and 85th under the Overall category. Globally, the university is placed in the 601–800 band and has received a QS Sustainability Ranking of 1201+ in 2024.

The university strongly believes in and is committed to helping deserving, financially weak students. Financial Aid and scholarships at Shiv Nadar University are offered to students selected through the specified admission criteria(s) in UG programmes, covering their academic and living expenses partially or fully. The amount of Shiv Nadar University scholarships depends upon the total number of applications, and the committee's decision will be final and binding.

• School Topper’s Scholarship: Students under this scholarship category will receive a 50% waiver on tuition fees for the four-year duration of the undergraduate program, subject to satisfying criteria for continuation of the scholarship. Eligibility for Topper's Scholarship requires the student to be a topper of the school from which he/she completed Class 12 board and must have an aggregate percentile of 95-98% depending on the chosen course.
• Merit-Based Scholarship: Students with at least 95% marks in Class 12 Board or at least 98 percentiles in JEE Mains or at least 40 in IB Board (without bonus point) or A* in all subjects in Cambridge Board can apply for a Merit-Based Scholarship, which offers 25% waiver on Tuition Fees for the duration of the undergraduate program, subject to satisfying criteria for continuation of the scholarship. 
• Scholarship for Candidates from Low-income Households: The university supports students from low-income households with a 100% waiver on Tuition Fees and Hostel charges. Mess and Laundry charges have to be borne by the student. The waiver is available for the duration of the undergraduate program, subject to satisfying the criteria for continuation of the scholarship.
• Sports Scholarship: Students with rankings in their sport from 1 to 100 ranks issued by their respective sports federations in India are eligible to apply. Due weightage shall be given to the Certificates of Winners/Participation at International, National, State level tournaments in respective sports/games recognized by National/International sports bodies of respective sports/games.
• College Board India Scholarship: If you have secured admission to a Shiv Nadar University undergraduate program through the College Board SAT, you may be eligible for a College Board India scholarship. The following conditions apply:
