St. Thomas College of Teacher Education owes its existence to God through the farsighted vision of His Excellency Mar George Punnakottil and late Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Puthenkulam, the then Secretary of the Corporate Educational Agency, Diocese of Kothamangalam. It is one of the outstanding colleges established and administered by the said agency in accordance with the rights of the minority community guaranteed in the Constitution of India. St.Thomas College of Teacher Education has been declared as a Minority Educational Institution in 13.09.2011, covered under section 2(g) of National Commission for Minority Educational Institution Act 2004. St.Thomas College of Teacher Education, Mylacompu, was established in the year 2005 as a self-financing institution affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) F.KL/SEC/N/328/SRO/NCTE/2004-2005/764 Dtd. 23-02- 2005. The college started functioning on 20th July 2005 with 100 students on the rolls for B.Ed Degree Course. Permission to start M.Ed. Degree Course was received on 5-1-2006 and the affiliation on 7-1-2008. NCTE granted permission to start M.Ed course on 15th February 2008. Classes for the first batch of 25 M.Ed students began on 25-02-2008.

St. Thomas College of Education Placements
St. Thomas College of Education (STCE) provides placement assistance to all its students. The dedicated placement cell regularly conducts grooming sessions of the students in areas like soft skills, interview facing skills, behavioral skills hereby making them industry-fit. In the recent years the college has witnessed some well known recruitment companies walking-in and being invited for campus placements.
Students are allowed to take only note books/ white paper in to the library. Other books, umbrellas, bag etc shall be left at the counter at their own risk before they move into the library. Perfect silence should be observed in the library and its premises. Students are given borrowers cards which are not transferable. Four books can be borrowed at a time, for a period of seven days and must be returned on or before the date indicated in the book An overdue charge of Rs. 1 per volume will be levied per day after due date. Once a book is issued it will not be taken back on the very same day.
