Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya (SJSV)  is a state university which was established by the Orissa Act, 31 of 1981. It was the third Sanskrit university to be founded in India.SJSV Puri received its recognition from the University Grant Commission (UGC) and accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a ‘B+’ grade. SJSV has one undergraduate department for Sikshashastri, eight postgraduate teaching departments and a centre called the Centre of Advance Research in Sanskrit (CARS). SJSV Puri course list includes six courses namely, UG (Shastri, Sikshashastri - B.Ed ), PG (Aacharya),  M.Phil (Visistacharya), PhD (Vidyavaridhi) and D.Litt.

SJSV Puri Highlights for 2023:

Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Visvavidyalaya Puri offers six courses through nine departments of study. SSJV Puri courses are offered at UG, PG and doctoral levels and cover a variety of subjects such as Veda, Advaita Vedanta, Jotirvigyan, Dharmashastra, Vyakarna and Sahitya. 

SJSV Puri UG courses such as Shastri and Siksha Shastri (B.Ed) programmes are designed to provide a solid foundation to the students. The university conducts an entrance examination (SSET) for admission to the SJSV Puri B.Ed programme. The duration of this course is two years and the number of seats available for admission is 50. 

SJSV Puri PG courses include the Acharya programme with a specialisation to choose from eight areas of study. Admission to this programme is also based on the entrance test conducted by the university. The number of seats available for this SSJV Acharya course is around 300. SJSV Puri fees for PG courses is very nominal and can be afforded by students belonging to low-economic backgrounds.

The SSJV admission criteria vary for various courses offered at the university. The criteria is set to check the eligibility of candidates and shortlist the qualified candidates. For example, a candidate must have passed Class 12 to apply for the SJSV Puri UG admission to the Shastri programme.
