The West Bengal University of Health Sciences was established in January 2003 by the West Bengal Legislature to affiliate, educate, and ensure formal and systematic instruction, training, and research in the Advancement of Medicine. The university promotes the education of Ayurvedic System of Medicine, Homoeopathic System of Medicine, Unani System of Medicine, Pharmacy Education, Nursing Education, Dental Education, Physiotherapy, Education on Laboratory Technology, Speech Therapy and Education on different paramedical courses such as Occupational Therapy and Prosthetics-Orthotics in the West Bengal state.

Since its inception, the West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata, courses have produced thousands of graduates, postgraduates, and PhD holders. In the short term, the university has affiliated numerous new colleges throughout West Bengal, resulting in a considerable increase in the number of seats in MBBS, BAMS, BBDS BPT, B. Pharma, B.Sc (H) in Nursing, and M.Sc. (Nursing) courses. WBUHSKolkata has the following faculties through which it offers all its medical and sciences courses:

WBUHS Fee Structure and List of Courses

WBUHS courses include 337 courses across four streams at the UG, PG, and PhD levels. These courses offered are in the field of Advancement of Medicine, Ayurvedic System of Medicine, Homoeopathic System of Medicine, Unani System of Medicine, Pharmacy Education, Nursing Education, Dental Education, Physiotherapy, Education in Laboratory Technology, Speech Therapy, and Education on different paramedical courses such as Occupational Therapy and Prosthetics-Orthotics.

A relaxation of 5% marks is offered for candidates belonging to ST/SC/ OBC (non-creamy layer) categories and differently-abled and other reserved categories as per government norms.

They also require a valid score in any of these entrance exams UGC-NET (including JRF), DST, ICMR, ICHR, CSIR, DBT, and UGC.

Candidates must pass an MBBS degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from any recognised university.

In addition, he or she requires a minimum of 2 years of work experience desirable in Orthopaedics, Anesthesiology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine, and Oncology from an MCI-recognised Medical College or Hospital.

 

Please note that candidates with Post Graduate Diploma or Degree in Orthopaedics, Anesthesiology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine, or Oncology from an MCI recognised university will be given preference.

WBUHS Admission Dates 2022

West Bengal University of Health Sciences Kolkata admission 2022 is open now for UG and PG courses. Candidates seeking WBUHS UG courses admissions such as MBBS, BDS,  BAHS, BUMS, and BAMS must appear for the NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) Undergraduate Seats) conducted by NTA. 

  • They can apply for NEET UG 2022 by May 7, 2022. The exam will be held on July 17, 2022.

Admission to WBUHS UG courses such as B.Pharm, BSc, BMLT, BPA, and BASL courses is purely merit-based on the JENPAUH performance. 

  • WBJEE JENPAUH 2022 exam is going to be held on May 15, 2022

In contrast, admission to PG courses at WBUHS, such as MD, MS, and certification courses, is based on the candidate's performance in NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for post-graduation Seats) or WBPGNAT entrance exam.

  • NEET PG 2022 exam is going to be held from May 16 to May 21, 2022

For the MDS course at WBUHS, candidates must have a valid score in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for Masters of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) conducted by NTA. 

  • NEET MDS 2022 exam is going to be held on May 2, 2022

For DM and MCh courses at WBUHS, candidates must have a valid score in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Super Speciality Courses (NEET SS) conducted by NTA. 

  • NEET SS 2022 exam is going to be held on June 18 and 19, 2022

WBUHS Application Process 2022 

WBUHSapplicationprocess generally starts in July every year with the release of the results of NEET exams. The selection criteria for different courses are different in the university and for different courses. The West Bengal University of Health Sciences application process is completely online. To complete the WBUHS application form, candidates need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. 

Step 2: Select the 'Registrar and Admission' from the main menu

Step 3: Select the Student Login option

Step 4: Click on 'Create an Account.’

Step 5: Check the list of active programs.

Step 6: Click on New user.

Step 7: Enter the information in the popped-up window, such as your name, father's name, Mobile Number, Email Id, and date of birth, and click on Next. Applicants are advised to Enter a valid email address, and phone number as all the information regarding university admission will be intimated to students by the university at these addresses provided by candidates.

Step 7: Once candidates have created their account details, then log in with the credentials sent to your email address to access all educational resources offered by West Bengal University of Health and Sciences and get updates on course-related activities.

Step 8: Now fill out the application form for the desired course with your obtained educational, Entrance Test score.

Step 9: Scanned signatures and colour photographs of the candidate must be uploaded along with the WBUHSapplicationform. To avoid any difficulty in the admission process, the candidates are advised to keep all the required documents, such as birth certificate, category certificate, last qualifying degree certificate, etc., handy.

Step 10: Finally, submit the application form. And pay the WBUHS application fee via any online payment method such as net banking, credit and debit cards, BHIM UPI, Paytm, etc. 

Step 11: Eligible candidates will be invited directly for the Aptitude test & personal interview (In case of courses that do not require an Entrance examination to qualify). While for the majority of courses, admission is granted based on candidates' performance in National or State level entrance exams, aptitude tests, and interviews by the WBUHSadmissioncommittee.

  • PhD aspirants are exempted from any entrance exam only if they have qualified for national-level entrance examinations such as UGC/ CSIR NET (JRF) examination, SET, GATE (with a valid score), or Teacher Research Fellowship.
  • Admission to certificate and fellowship courses requires candidates to have specific criteria and an entrance exam to qualify, as provided in the course and eligibility table above.

WBUHS Cut Off

NTA will release WBUHS 2022 cut-off list for all its undergraduate and Postgraduate programs basis NEET UG, NEET PG, NEET MDS, and NEED SS scores. Therefore, candidates seeking admission to WBUHS must know what marks and ranks they must secure to get a seat for themselves in the desired WBUHS UG and PG programmes. The WBUHS placement process often starts in September, with the campus drive of top hospitals and medical institutes having national and international reputations. The campus drive of 2021 in WBUHS saw 70% of students placed in their desired fields and positions according to their aspirations and skills. 

West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) Kolkata conducts placement drives and offers internships to pre-final year students. Some of the top recruiters of WBUHS are – Fortis Hospital, Rubi Hospital, Government Hospitals, Bellevue Hospital, and Apollo Hospital. Students in the final year must complete an internship at any of the hospitals recognised by MCI or WBMC. Internship Opportunities offered by WBUHS give the students practical exposure and so a great experience. Students are quite well-paid while on the Internship period to motivate them to work and adapt to the Medical Sector.

Students at West Bengal University of Health Sciences can also choose to do a one-year junior residency as well. Though this is not compulsory yet, many students choose to go forward with it to make them more understanding of their work culture. After completing the internship, WBUHS students register themselves as medical officers to get a job at the government hospital. The initial monthly stipend is approximately Rs 21,000, and after training completion, it increases to Rs 35,000. WBUHS Scholarships 

Several scholarship programmes at West Bengal University of Health Sciences for its students are offered by the West Bengal Government.  WBUHS Kolkata scholarship facilities for UG and PG students help the students with financial assistance and reward academic performances. The main WBUHS scholarship programmes are' Aikyashree' scholarships, the Chief Minister's brainchild. The beneficiary students get between Rs 17,000 to Rs 33,000 annually under this scheme. Listed below are the criteria to be fulfilled by students to be eligible for that:

  • Students from the category SC/ ST/ OBC quota obtained 75% in higher secondary examinations and got good rank in the national level entrance are eligible to get this scholarship.
  • Students who obtained 75% in Higher Secondary Examination and got good rank in national level entrance and belonging to the minority communities are also eligible to get a scholarship.
  • The university offers students from economically weaker backgrounds scholarships.
  • Students whose at least a single parent serves or has served in the Indian Defence Services are also eligible for a scholarship.
