IIFT: Guide to Programmes, Selection Process and Exam Pattern
The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was started by the then Government of India (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) in 1963. It is an autonomous institute that was started to professionalize the country's foreign trade management and improve exports by evolving human resources, processing data by thorough analysis and promoting research.
IIFT is one of the top 10 business schools in India and is the only premier business school in the nation that offers International Business program. The institute has campuses at two locations, one in the national capital – IIFT Delhi and the other is IIFT Kolkata. The most popular programme offered by IIFT is Master of Business Administration in International Business (MBA-IB). It is a highly acclaimed and unique programme. Other than this IIFT also provides few other programmes.

All Indian candidates who are aiming for IIFT will have to appear for the IIFT entrance exam because a candidate’s performance majorly judged on the basis the entrance exam. Foreign candidates who wish to study at IIFT will have to apply through GMAT scores.
Entrance exam score is not the only component basis which the institute does the selection process. Being one of the premier B-schools of the nation, IIFT shortlists candidates on the basis of their overall academic performance. This includes the performance in 10th Board Examinations, 12th board examinations, graduation aggregate and work experience (if any). For executive programmes, it is mandatory for candidates to have credible work experience.
Selection of students at IIFT is done in two phases. Refer the following table for more details:

|MBA-IB||Candidates who clear the cutoff of IIFT entrance Exam will be analyzed on the basis of their performance in individual sections. Foreign candidates will be evaluated of the basis of GMAT scores.||Those candidates who will clear the phase 1 will be called for the Essay Writing and Personal Interview. Composite scores of all the phases are considered for final selection.|
