The Library has developed together with the college as an indispensable part of the entire college. The location of the Library has been changed a number of times. Initially the college library was situated in the Bethune School Hall.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Mahatma Gandhi's Centenary year, i.e. 1969. Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges and Universities. The NSS motto, very aptly is "NOT ME BUT YOU".
The NSS unit of Bethune College was formalized in 2006. Currently Dr. Hiroj Kumar Saha (Dept. of Zoology) is the teacher in charge of the unit and also the Programme Officer. The College maintains a very active NSS unit. The work done by the unit is divided into two subcategories -
Infrastructure: Bethune College, located in the heart of Kolkata, blends heritage charm with modern educational infrastructure. As one of the oldest women’s colleges in Asia, its campus reflects a legacy of empowerment and academic excellence. The college building, with its colonial architecture, houses well-maintained classrooms, departmental labs, and administrative offices. The Zoology department is equipped with updated laboratory facilities, specimens, and microscopes to support hands-on learning. The college library is a valuable resource, offering a wide range of academic books, journals, and digital materials for research and study. Bethune also has computer labs, an auditorium, seminar halls, and common rooms for students. The campus includes green spaces and a peaceful courtyard, providing a serene environment for academic focus. Despite being situated in a busy area, the college maintains a disciplined and safe atmosphere for students. Its infrastructure continues to evolve, balancing historical significance with contemporary needs in education.
Hostel: Bethune College provides hostel facilities for outstation students, ensuring a safe and supportive residential environment. Located close to the main campus, the hostel is well-maintained and offers basic amenities required for a comfortable stay. Rooms are allotted on a sharing basis, equipped with necessary furniture, fans, and proper ventilation. The hostel has clean washrooms, a common room, study areas, and a dining hall where nutritious meals are served. Security is a priority, with strict rules, round-the-clock supervision, and restricted entry to maintain discipline and safety. Wardens and staff members are helpful and approachable, creating a homely atmosphere for the residents. The hostel also promotes a sense of community, where students from diverse backgrounds live, learn, and grow together. Living in the Bethune hostel offers not only convenience for academic life but also valuable life experiences, fostering independence, time management, and strong bonds among fellow students.
Infrastructure: Bethune provides for every necessary things a student needs. We have library one for arts and one for science. We have a gym, common room for girls, water dispenser, scholarship cells, spacious auditorium. even though the area is bit small compared to other colleges personally I think being a government college it still has more than what normal government colleges don't irrespective of its size.
Hostel: the girls hostel of bethune college is in the salt lake area which is quite far from the campus itself. But the hostellers are being provided of every facilities required for students coming from a distance. The costing is also cheap. Bethune has a college bus for hostellers in order to provide the pick up and drop off facility. apart from the distance from college to hostel everything is upto the mark for a good hostel
Infrastructure: Yes infrastructure is so good ..and aesthetic also...there is a lab in which 30 computers are there..there are two libraries one for science and the other is for arts. There is a canteen..there are many rooms each in 5 separate buildings.
Hostel: Good..new hostel is great the food in hostel is also good..it is secure as its a girls college..every facilities are there in the hostel..girls hostel is so secure
