Grading System in India: CBSE, UGC & Indian Universities Academic Grading

Grading System in India: The grading system in India is widely followed across CBSE schools, UGC-recognized institutes, and Indian universities, providing a standardized way to evaluate students’ academic performance. Globally, grading systems are recognized as one of the most effective tools for assessing learning outcomes. Introduced in 2009, the grading system replaced the traditional percentage-based evaluation under the updated education policy. Designed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), it ensures fair assessment and minimizes disparities in the education system. The scale of the university is considered while assigning grades, which allows students of similar capabilities to be evaluated fairly, rather than being separated by minor differences in marks.

Being an alumnus of LPU. Yes, LPU is very strict in case of attendance and you are eligible to sit in an exam only when the criteria of 75% attendance gets fulfilled. LPU gives ample chances and opportunities to enjoy the college life along with studies but not at the cost of their studies. Moreover, You can also earn some bonus marks on the bases that how good is your attendance percentage, there are different slabs for that.. In case you have good percentage i.e., 90%+ attendance in a particular subject, then you will get 5 marks extra in that subject and other slabs comprises 85-90% for 4 marks and 80-85% for 3 marks an so on. Believe me! These marks can save you from bad grades. No medical certificates or any excuses is entertained. However, if you have attendance less than 75% then your attendance in individual subjects are considered, and in whichever subject you have less than 75% percent , you will not be allowed to write exam of that particular subject. Let me mention that, this is not same in all the programs in LPU. Only the courses in which attendance weightage is calculated in each subject, are given this priority. Other wise for all others, there is only one thing “maintain 75% of attendance”. Moreover, the more classes you attend, the more you will get to learn and the better you will be able to perform in your exams. You can get duty leaves in case:- • You have participated in any event organized by LPU. • Attended guest lectures and seminars. • Working on Live projects. To add another information, by any chance the students overall percentage is below 75 %, but in the previous semester he/she has maintained good attendance, then grace % for attendance can be given, looking at the situation. By this, the 75% criteria can be fulfilled by the student. Moreover, the more classes you attend , the more you will get to learn and the better you will be able to perform in your exams.
