Dublin City University - DCU

Dublin City University is growing and 2016 will see a significant transformation for the University, with the planned completion of the Incorporation process that brings together St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra (SPD), Mater Dei Institute of Education (MDI) and Church of Ireland College of Education (CICE) with DCU. Already in September 2015, incoming first year students on MDI and SPD programmes were registered as DCU students. These important developments marked the beginning of a new era for education in Ireland through the establishment of the new Institute of Education, a new Faculty in DCU and the first Faculty of Education in an Irish university. The new Institute will develop and provide teacher education and continuous professional development spanning early childhood through primary, secondary and tertiary levels, thus creating the largest critical mass of educational ideas on this island. This new Faculty will pioneer research in priority areas for 21st century education, it will engage with schools and educational communities across Ireland and beyond and it will be an authoritative source of influence on education policy developments. The New DCU will have a larger community, footprint and impact. Following Incorporation, their multi campus university will have a stronger, more visible, presence in North Dublin, underpinning their position as the most significant and comprehensive provider of University education on the rapidly growing and economically important Eastern corridor. The New DCU will be better equipped to support its approximately 16,000 students with a continuing focus on personal, academic and professional life-skill development. Students will benefit from expanded services in counselling, work placement, careers, financial assistance, sports and health, chaplaincy and disability and learning support, and will avail of a new student centre on the Glasnevin Campus and a new student health centre which will be built on the St Patrick’s campus.
