Established in 1972, George Mason University is known as Virginia’s largest public research university. The university was founded with 17 students but today around 10,000 students from different part of the world are pursuing their education at the university. From the establishment, the university is growing at a rapid rate. George Mason University is well known for its innovation, remarkable diversity, and commitment to accessibility. The university was ranked 57th among top 100 world universities under 50 years old by the Times Higher Education in 2014. It was rated among the top 40 most diverse public universities in the world by the U.S News and World Report in 2013.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Courses at George Mason University include around 75+ Bachelor programs and 120+ Master programs available in the 10 colleges/ schools of the university. Mason's 10 colleges and schools span a variety of academic disciplines. Apart from the existing programs, the university also provides an opportunity for integrative studies to the students. They are further allowed to develop their own degree programs. Programs from all the major sectors are available at the campus of George Mason University. The campus of George Mason University is spread over 817 acres of land. Many facilities are available at the campus such as Aquatic and Fitness Center, Center for the Arts and EagleBank Arena.
Accomplishments & Alumni
George Mason University has produced many graduates. The alumni of the university have achieved great success and leadership in their respective fields. The headline of the show “The World Right Now with Hala Gorani”, Hala Gorani, General manager of the resurgent Kansas City Royals, Dayton Moore, Zainab Salbi and the first Muslim woman in space, Anousheh Ansari are among the notable alumni of the University.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
George Mason University is a home of many students who have came from all 50 states and 122 different countries making it the most diverse students population in the United state. Students from all the Ethnicity are pursuing education at the university. The housing facilities provided to the students are well equipped with modern facilities. The college offers a comfortable environment for the students so that all the students can feel comfortable at the campus. Many reputed companies from the Washington DC visit the campus during the career fairs and placement season.
Mason will start the fall semester as planned with a blend of in-person instruction and expanded online classes. Campuses will be reopening with a hybrid model in place from August 24, 2020, including a number of health and safety changes such as face-covering in public spaces. The university has also curated a Safe Return to Campus Plan in consultation with the Virginia Department of Health. Find the changes brought to Mason in view of the pandemic below-
Rules from March 2020, permitting online study because of the challenging times, will remain the same.
The online format at Mason will be 50 percent live-streamed in accordance with the class schedule.
Daily screening on campus will be conducted by a self-reporting tool by all employees and students.
The Office of International Programs and Services will keep supporting all overseas students through both online and offline modes.
The university will also navigate entry restrictions, quarantine protocols and flight limitations, as specified by every country.
Merit- Based Scholarships are offered to a limited number of international students at George Mason University. International applicants who are highly qualified are offered the scholarship. Candidates who apply as freshmen are considered for the scholarship. There is no need to fill separate applications for scholarships.
Candidates who submit the online application form by April 1st for Fall Term are considered for scholarship.
Following are the eligibility criteria to be considered for Merit- Based Scholarship:
Value of the scholarship ranges between $2,000 and $10,000 per academic year. The scholarship is renewable for four years provided the student maintains academic performance.
The scholarship was introduced to recognise international students with a remarkable intercultural understanding. GMU offers two of these scholarships every Fall.
It shall be open to the candidates who meet the following criteria:
A #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship will cover at least 50% tuition fee for the first year. It can be combined with other available merit scholarships and renewed for the second year only if the student maintains a good academic record.
