GC Campus

The college has started its journey from Banerjeedanga High school with only 50 students on 12th February 1950. The college was shifted to its campus constituted by the generous donation of 12.58 acres of land by the local fighter Late Basanta Kumar Sarkar and 9.56 acres of land by Midnapur Zamindar Company. The college is marching forward with a vision to achieve its mission of catering higher education to students of Paschim Medinipur and the adjoining districts of Bankura and Hooghly. In the 67 years of its long journey started just with a corrugated sheet shade in the jangal, the college has now reached at a height and possesses long buildings, well established laboratories with sophisticated instruments and provided with other basic amenities that are essential for an institution of higher learning. Since inception the College was affiliated to the University of Calcutta with Arts and Commerce stream in Intermediate standard at first.Affiliation up to B.A.(Pass) standard was extended in 1957, followed by B.Sc (Pass) in 1960 and Mathematics (Hons) and History (Hons) in 1964. Subsequently, University of Calcutta granted B.Com. (Pass) and Zoology (Pass) and Botany (Pass) in 1982 and 1983 respectively.

The library is on the ground floor. So, physically disabled students face no problem to access the library as there is a ramp in front of the library corridor. The physically challenged students are helped by staff  to provide them books or study materials as they required in the students’ reading room. The library has a suggestion/complain Box. Every month the suggestions are deliberated advisory committee and acted upon. Quarterly an interactive session is held by advisory committee with students to get feedback for improving the library services. In the beginning of the session the students are accompanied by their respective teachers to the library and introduced with the text books in their relevant subjects. Any suggestion given by new students are also sent to the advisory committee for consideration.

GC Hostel & Fees Structure

The college has its own provision to provide accomodation facility for the students studying General degree course as well as B.P.Ed. Course. The hostel encompasses intake capacity of 70 students in Boy’s Hostel and 100 students in Girl’s Hostel. Students are asked to follow the rules and regulations framed by the college authority as a boarder in the hostel. The selection criteria to take admission into on their academic performance in the Examination last attend and the distance of their residence from the college.

Students Activities & Clubs

NSS Club -

To ensure the mental as well as personality development of students, Garhbeta College has introduced four NSS units having capacity of 100 volunteers in each. Along with the normal activity in every session, each unit organizes special winter camp in various adopted villages. Besides, student volunteers participated in the various occasions like ‘Banomahotsab’, World AIDS Day, observation of Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday, Netaji’s Birthday etc. Another exposure of NSS volunteers is the establishment of ‘Red Ribbon Club’ at the College. The objective of the club is solely the promotion of voluntary blood donation in the student community as well as to the local youth, this noble venture reached to the reality of light with the coordination of ‘Voluntary Blood Donors Association’. Also the club made aware the people on blood transfusion related diseases that appear due to the negligence and superstition prevails in the society.

At the beginning of every session forms of NSS registration are distributed among the 1st year students from each units separately. The NSS officers corresponding to the respective unit circulate notice regarding the registration in NSS and it is after the commencement of 1st year classes. One student can take either NCC or NSS and both are not at all permissible. Apart from this, a student opting for NSS can only registered himself/herself in one unit only. According to the active involvement in activity, NSS officers forward the names of volunteer of his/her unit for the recommendation to be a member of ‘Red Ribbon Club’ in the advisory committee meeting of ‘Red Ribbon Club’.


NCC Club -

The College has two Companies of National Cadet Corps (NCC) affiliated to 53 Bengal Battalion NCC at Bishnupur since 1959. Both male and female students are admitted to NCC. Our Cadets have shown great achievements including participation in Republic Day Parade in New Delhi and commanding NCC in the Republic Day Parade in Kolkatain past years. In this way they can take part directly to serve the motherland and the process of nation building. Our NCC Cadets regularly participated in Tree Plantation, Pulse Polio Immunization Programme and donated blood throughout the year.

Social Service (NCC)

Our NCC Cadets participated in Cleaning Programme at College premises.

Our Cadets organized a procession regarding Swachha Bharat Abhijan during the NCC Camp held at Garhbeta College.

Our Cadets donated blood during the attendingin various NCC camps.

Innovation Club -

Eco Club : Interaction with the society

Garhbeta College has established the ECO Club to carry on friendship relation with the environment. Eco Club is very important as it established of focal point for all environmental sustainable activities and programme.

The purpose of the ECO Club is to engage students over various environmental awareness activities and to mobilise students towards scientific enquiry into environmental issues actively.

It should be the responsibility of the club to devise, run and monitor college wise activities, such as reducing, reusing and recycling programmes, energy saving schemes promotional events and also generating awareness of conservation of water by minimizing the use of water.

Eco Club will help to promote, monitor and operate the environmental activities of the college, however, the entire community needs to be involved in some capacity and more students along with the staff are expected to be involved in the programme of the club.
