Sri Krishnarajendra Charitable Trust® was established in the year 1989 with the main objective of providing education to socially and economically backward section of the society in particular and the nation in general irrespective of caste, creed, race and religion. The Trust was formed by a group of well known philanthropists, educationists and social workers who have dedicated themselves to provide education. Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine & Research, Bangalore, Karnataka, India is a maiden venture of Sri Krishnarajendra Charitable Trust (SKRCT) registered under the Indian Trust Act as a non-profit making organisation whose main objective is to rejuvenate Ayurvedic Education and also to initiate research and development in Ayurvedic Medicine globally. India is one of the seventh largest country and is among the first ten most developed countries in the world. The country measures 3,214 kms from north to south and 2933 kms from east to west. India's land frontiers are approximately 15,200 kms and its coastline is about 7,516 kms including Andaman and Nicobar islands and Lakshadweep region. India's northern boundary is democrated by the Himalayas. India's immediate neighbors are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. India is a sovereign Democratic Secular Republic, enjoying a Parliamentary System of Government. India has 27 States and 5 Union territories and has a population of 100 crores, as assessed in the year 1999-2000. In India, Hindi is the national language and has English as the official language and medium of instruction. Sanskrit is also recognised as one of India's languages in the VIII schedule of the constitution. The Republic has a constitution, which came into force on 26th January 1950. India being a union of states, is federal in structure but has unitary features.

IIAMR provides a well-equipped library with a collection of both classic and modern works of Indian medicine. The periodical collection consists of 40 current subscriptions on Ayurveda, nutrition, conventional medicine, journals on research and current advances in Ayurveda from various Universities.The department is well equipped with Overhead projectors, slide projectors, Television, Video Recorder and audio recording equipment for providing information on rare plants, rare clinical cases and audio tapes of speeches of eminent personalities. The college has a well equipped computer centre preserving the manuscripts in floppies. The centre is used by all departments, as a result, teaching becomes more effective and students have access to the latest developments in their field. Some of the medical subjects are taught with the assistance of computer - like Anatomy using CD-ROM. The institute has got a research department led by senior research scholars. The department plans to document important texts on Ayurueda, edit and publish manuscripts on Ayurveda and Ayuruedic journals, apart from doing research on folk medicine.
