Malabar Christian College - MCC Calicut - MCC

Malabar Christian College, is the only educational institution in Kozhikode, Kerala which has had the privilege of being visited and blessed by the Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi. In the year 1934, the Mahatma visited this institution to collect money from the students here towards the cause of the freedom struggle, and it is said a hundred rupees was collected by the patriotic students and presented to him in a pouch during a small ceremony which was organized for the occasion. The college has enshrined this visit in the form of the Gandhi Statue which was built in 2010 and which stands at the entrance porch of the college. It was unveiled by Ommen Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala. The College is managed by the newly formed Malabar Diocese and is now under the care and guardianship of Rt. Rev. Dr. Royce Manoj Victor, Bishop, CSI Diocese of Malabar. The College has always had a good and strong Management Committee and Governing body which has efficiently chartered it the through the different events and happenings of its history and upheld its power and position as an educational institution of great value in this part of Malabar. Malabar Christian College is managed by Mr. Jayapal Samuel Zachiah who is a very able administrator and committed to the upliftment of the college and its community. The College also has a very supportive team of Administrative staff who ensure the smooth functioning of the office and its related activities.

Malabar Christian College Placements

The Career Guidance and Placement Cell at Malabar Christian College, Calicut functions under the direct control and directions of the Principal of the College. Dr. Premanand M E, Associate Professor, Department of English has been nominated by the Principal. Together with other heads of Department, they work together to guide students on various career opportunities. Career and Counselling Cell helps the students with appropriate guidance to establish linkages with the world of work and locate career opportunities vis the realities and job profiles in the context of highly competitive emerging occupational patterns. The active participation of institutional experts and HR personnel would acquaint the students with the high demand market areas and invoke industry institution linkages. The cell also seeks to identify the talents available among the students of the College, nurture and harness them further by offering guidance to choose a bright and successful career. The Career Guidance Cell organizes seminars and meetings to encourage the students to plan their future. The Cell also invites reputed companies to the campus to conduct campus interviews and find suitable jobs for the skills available among the students. The cell also facilitates the economically weaker sections of the students of first and second year undergraduate courses to find suitable part time jobs to supplement the family income without affecting their academic pursuit. The activities of the cell include collecting the database of the students and compiling them for use when needed.

Infrastructure

The management makes sure that the infrastructure and learning resources are well maintained and updated regularly and it is monitored in a very systematic manner. Quality is the first priority of the institution while purchasing machines, books and other equipment for the use of staff and students. Common rooms with indoor playing facilities are available in the campus. The UGC has sanctioned grants-in-aid during X1Ith Plan period to the college for setting up a gymnasium and an indoor stadium. Work is progressing for the construction of the indoor stadium in the campus funded by UGC. Internet and Wi-Fi facility are available in the central library of the College, in all departments, administrative office and computer centers.
