National Dairy Research Institute Campus

The  sprawling 560 ha campus of the Institute is self sufficient in housing laboratories, offices, hostels, hospital, residential complexes, auditorium etc. Various laboratories of the Institute are equipped with the state-of-the-art analytical instruments for carrying out research in most advanced areas of Molecular Biology, Cell Culture, Fermentation Technology, Protein Chemistry, Nutritional Studies, Food Technology, Microbiology, Micro Element Analysis, etc.

The Institute possesses an elite herd of over 1600 dairy animals including cattle, buffaloes and goats which caters to breed improvement projects and other research activities. The highest peak yields of 44 and 46.5 kg have been recorded in Karan-Swiss and Karan-Fries cows, respectively. Through consistent selection, the indigenous cattle breeds, Sahiwal and Tharparkar, have been improved and the highest peak yields of 23 and 19.5 kg milk per day have been obtained in these two breeds, respectively. In Murrah buffaloes, the breed that is known to be the best in the world, the peak milk yield of 22.5 kg in a day has been achieved. A modern Milking Parlor System and Shelter Management System set up recently at the Livestock Farm serve as demonstration models for the progressive farmers and provide infrastructure for conducting research on various aspects of milk production system, reproduction behaviour, growth profile and nutritional requirements for elite milch breeds.

Experimental Dairy Plant with facilities to process milk into a variety of products provides necessary infrastructure for experimentation on new product/process development and meeting the training needs of students in pilot-scale dairy plant operations. The Model Dairy Plant with the most modern equipment and process automation, and a processing capacity of 60,000 liters of milk per day has been established with the collaboration of NDDB to provide hands-on training facilities to the B. Tech. students of NDRI Deemed University and

for scientists to carry out scaling up of operations for products and processes developed in the research laboratories. The Plant has acquired ISO 9002 and HACCP Certifications.

NDRI has in its fold a National Library for Dairying, which has over 90,000 documents on Dairying and allied disciplines. The library subscribes to 250 Indian and foreign journals and caters to the needs of the scholars of NDRI and the sister institutions within the country. It is adequately equipped with facilities like Internet, Documentation, Reference, Current Awareness Services, CD-ROM, Photocopying, Literature & Documentation Scanning services.

The Computer Centre tagged with Agricultural Research Information System (ARIS) and Biotechnology Information System (BTIS) is engaged in multifarious academic and service providing activities like monitoring management information, maintaining databases, software development, data analysis, graphic applications and Bioinformatics for the benefit of staff and students through the establishment of Local Area Network (LAN).

A new state-of- the-art research facility with 60,000 square feet of laboratory space has been created recently to give further fillip to research in Animal Biotechnology at NDRI. The Institute has recently taken up steps to start new activities like establishment of Technology Business Incubator (TBI) facility at NDRI to promote entrepreneurship and wider application of technologies developed here and efforts are being made to establish a National Referral Laboratory for analysis of milk, milk products, feed and fodder.

Infrastructure ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) at Karnal, Haryana is one of the premier institutes in the dairy sector, which has contributed a lot in the growth of the dairy industry and played a crucial role in India's development in milk production with its continuous research. Over ninety nine years old NDRI's lineage goes back to the Imperial Institute for Animal Husbandry & Dairying which was set up in Bangalore in 1923 as a center for dairy education. In its erstwhile form of Imperial Institute in Bangalore, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and ‘Bharat Ratna’ Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, were imparted training at the institute in 1927.

Hostel . He held several discussions on the problems of Pinjrapoles, which housed low-producing, mostly sterile cows and other dairy stock mainly on humanitarian grounds. Mahatma Gandhi evinced great interest in the work of the institute and wrote several articles in `Young India’ and `Harijan’ on the importance of dairying and scientific cattle management. Gandhiji's thinking and views had a significant influence on the political leadership, particularly towards taking key policy decisions during the early post-Independence era, resulting in the formulation of the Key Village Scheme, Gosamvardhana Council, and intensive Cattle Development Programmes. In 1936 it was renamed as Imperial Dairy Institute and it was shifted to its present site in Karnal in 1955 and renamed again as National Dairy Research Institute. The infrastructure of Imperial Institute was retained as a southern regional station of NDRI and later in 1964 Eastern regional station was set up at Kalyani in West Bengal. In 1970, NDRI was brought under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The institute has the distinction of being a Deemed University for implementing its academic programs since 1989. The institute provides high-quality education in the field of dairying, which has no parallel in Asia. It is noteworthy that NDRI is not only an important contributor of manpower in dairying

The ICAR (AIEEA) exam is now conducted through CUET for admission into agriculture-related programs, so there is no fixed “pass mark” or “cutoff” as it changes every year based on competition and university requirements. The full marks depend on the CUET pattern, which is usually around 600 marks for relevant subjects. To appear, you need to apply through the NTA CUET portal after completing your 12th (mainly with Science subjects for agriculture courses). From a student perspective, if you are planning for agriculture studies, LPU is also a strong option as it accepts CUET scores and provides good practical exposure, labs, and industry-based learning. So overall, focus on CUET preparation, and LPU can be a good destination for building a strong career in agriculture and related fields. for more i suggest u visit lpu official website

ICAR is a great option in that case you are planning NEET and you have backup options. The NEET syllabus is also similar, and hence preparation in the NEET should automatically assist in preparing ICAR. In order to pass the ICAR exam, you have to specialize in the concepts in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, go through past years papers and go through NCERT comprehensively. It is also essential to score well by time management and frequent mock tests. In the event that you are eligible under ICAR, you can look at seeking agriculture courses at Lovely Professional University that boasts of modern laboratories, qualified staff, and a high level of exposure to the industry. LPU is also scholarship based on the performance at ICAR and it renders education less expensive. The university is focused on hands-on learning, research and exposure to the field. All in all, maintaining ICAR as the back-up and focusing on NEET will be a good move, and LPU is the right place to establish a successful career in the field of agriculture and related sciences.
