Regional Institute of English - RIE Chandigarh - RIE

The Regional Institute of English (RIE), Chandigarh was established in 1963 under a Government of India act to address the educational needs in English ofJammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh. Functioning within the purview of the Chandigarh Administration, the institute collaborates with English and Foreign Languages University (EFL-U), Hyderabad under a Government of India scheme and also collaborates with Panjab University CBSE, NCERT, Regional English Language Office (US Dept of States), New Delhi and British Council, New Delhi in its research projects and teacher training programmes. Since its inception, the institute has been attending to teacher education requirements from primary to postgraduate level. However, on witnessing the increasing importance of English as a global language in sectors such as education, business, politics, travel/tourism, information and communication technology, etc, the institute has introduced courses for students including MA English in affiliation with Panjab University, Chandigarh. Almost all nations stress on education as it is the single most potent instrument of improvement and empowerment. The institute believes in imparting higher education in link with human values and employment opportunities. Our endeavour is to promote the desire of learning in our learners while honing their critical thinking skills. I am sure education of this nature will go far inachieving development of society and planet earth.

Library: The Institute has a well-equipped library, which stocks a rich collection of books of around 21,000 books on Literature, ELT, English Linguistics, Phonetics & Phonology, Communication Skills, English journals and multimedia software to promote language learning. The computerized/RIFD library facilitates easy access to books.

Multimedia Language Lab : The Institute is a pioneer in establishing a computerized multimedia language lab with 31 computers andhi-tech software to enhance Communication Skills. The Language Lab has an LCD projector for demonstrating and enhancing the presentation skills of the teacher trainees. Another language lab with 15 computers and internet facility has been established for MA (English) students.

Classrooms : The institute has air-conditioned classrooms with comfortable furniture and modern gadgets to facilitatethe teaching learning experience. All the classrooms are equipped with an LCD Projector, LCD Screens, computers and public address systems.

Hostel Accommodation & Recreation Facilities : The institute provides comfortable accommodation with modern amenities to the male participants attending its programs. With a capacity to accommodate 26 occupants at a time, the hostel offers thefollowing facilities:
