The GRE registration process can be carried out in three ways: through the candidate's ETS account, by phone and by mail. Conducted in over 1,000 test centres in over 160 countries, GRE can also be taken from the comfort of your home.

Before registering for the GRE at Home test, one must check if they meet the ETS-specified equipment and environment requirements. The application process for the GRE at Home and GRE at the test centre is identical. GRE appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Therefore, candidates must register early to get their preferred test date and centre.

The Graduate Record Examination, commonly known as GRE, is a computer-based as well as paper-based exam conducted to measure and assess one’s ability to study a graduate programme in universities abroad. Respecting the regulations and restrictions established by different countries regarding large congregations, ETS has introduced a GRE General Test at Home. where the applicants will be able to attempt the exam from the comfort of their homes. To attempt the exams from their homes, candidates must register and apply for the same. However, it must be noted that the GRE General Test at Home depends on the COVID-19 regulations in place at the respective country.

Online GRE Registration

The online method of GRE registration is completed on the official website of ETS. Here are the steps for the online GRE registration.

Online GRE Registration Process

1. Create an Account

  • The first step in the online GRE registration depends on whether you are a first-time user or not. 

  • First-time users are required to create an account on the ETS website. 

  • If you are not a first time user, you can directly log onto the website by entering your username and password.

2. Enter the Required Information

  • Once you have created an account on the website, you will need to provide more information. 

  • You will be asked to feed in some additional details which may prove to be handy at the time of admission. 

3. Select the GRE Test Centre and Date

  • After entering all the required details, you will have to select a GRE test centre that suits your convenience. 

  • You can also select a date for you as per your preference. 

  • Candidates can access the whole GRE calendar on the ETS website to make an informed decision about selecting their GRE test date.

4. Payment

  • After selecting a GRE test centre and date, you will be redirected to the payment page. 

  • You will have to pay the GRE registration fee of $205 through that page.

  • You must carefully read the exam details before proceeding with the payment. 

5. Acknowledgement Receipt

  • After making the payment, you will get a soft copy of an acknowledgement receipt.

  • You can print the acknowledgement receipt and keep it for potential future use.

  • With this, you will have successfully registered yourself for the GRE.

GRE Registration Through Phone

Applying for the GRE through phone is a very simple process. Here are the steps you would need to follow to complete the GRE registration via phone.

Step 1: Call the RRC (Regional Registration Centre).

Step 2: You must make sure to make a call prior to at least two business days from the GRE test date of your preference. 

Step 3: To ensure your registration, you will be given a confirmation number, your test centre address and your GRE reporting time.

Step 4: The RRC (Regional Registration Center), which is ‘Prometric’ is located in Gurugram, Haryana.

GRE Registration Through Mail

Students must follow the steps mentioned below to register for the GRE test via mail.

Step 1: Print an application form for GRE that you can access through the ETS website. 

Step 2: Complete the application form entering all the required details.

Step 3: You can then mail the application along with an application fee to the following address:

Step 4: Once your application has been received at the address, you will be either mailed or faxed a confirmation number and address of your exam centre along with the timing of your test. 

Step 5: You must ensure to mail the application at least three weeks before your preferred GRE test date.
