Central Agricultural University Imphal is located in Imphal, Manipur and operates under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE). CAU Imphal is accredited by the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board (NAEAB), ICAR, New Delhi. CAU (Central Agricultural University Imphal) was established on January 26, 1993, by the Central Agricultural University Act of 1992 (No. 40 of 1992). The CAU Imphal course list has nine undergraduate, 45 postgraduate, and 25 doctoral programmes in various subjects and disciplines of agriculture & allied sciences.

Central Agricultural University Imphal admission is granted through three methods: State Nomination, ICAR AIEEA, and Self-Financed Seat. 

State Nomination allows candidates from seven North Eastern states to approach respective state departments for admission, with 85% of undergraduate seats allotted through state nomination. 

ICAR AIEEA has 15% of undergraduate seats reserved through the AIEEA entrance exam. While 75% of postgraduate and doctoral seats are selected through the CAU entrance test, and the remaining 25% are reserved through AIEEA. 

The Self-Financed Seat is open for all candidates, and selection is based on the entrance test or AIEEA score for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in selected disciplines.

CAU Admission Process

Central Agricultural University Imphal admission process is explained below. 

Step 1: Contact the Office of the Registrar/Dean of the respective constituent college for the CAU application form.

Step 2: Fill out the form with all necessary information and attach required documents like academic proofs, identity cards, and address proof.

Step 3: Submit the completed form to the registrar of the university before the deadline.

Step 4: Shortlisted candidates will be called for counselling based on their eligibility, bringing all original documents.

Step 5: Upon successful counselling, the provisional admission letter will be provided by the Registrar of CAU Imphal.

Step 6: Report to the Dean of the respective college and get original documents verified by a committee of senior teachers and the assistant registrar (Academic).

Step 7: Upon successful verification of documents, pay the required fee and get admitted to the college.

Central Agricultural University Imphal Eligibility Criteria 2023

CAU Imphal Eligibility Criteria For UG Courses: 

An eligible candidate must have passed the class 12 exam or equivalent with a minimum of 50% aggregate of PCB/PCBM/ or PCB/PCMB/ PCM /Inter-Agriculture for General & OBC categories and 40% marks for SC/ST/ Physically Challenged /In-service categories. The candidate must have passed class 12 with English as one subject of study. The candidate also must be of 17 years of age by August 31 of the admission year.

CAU Imphal Eligibility Criteria For PG Courses: 

For postgraduate courses at Central Agricultural University Imphal, an eligible candidate must have passed graduation in the concerned subject from an ICAR-recognized Institution. Moreover, candidates must have scored 60% marks in graduation (for general) and 40% (for SC/ST/OBC) to be eligible for the PG courses. The selection of candidates in CAU PG courses will be based on the entrance examination marks (40% weightage), academic performance in the graduation exam (40% weightage), Class 11 and Class 12 (20% weightage).

CAU Imphal Eligibility Criteria For PhD Courses: 

To be eligible for PhD courses at CAU Imphal, a candidate must have passed a masters degree programme from a recognised university with an overall GPA of 6.50/10.00, 3.25/5.00, and 2.6/4.00. In case GPA was not awarded, students must have scored a minimum of 60% marks (for the general category) in PG. SC/ST/OBC candidates must have achieved 50% marks in the PG exam.

Hostel Facilities: The CAU Imphal hostels are located inside the campus, making it easy and secure for students living there. All the courses offered at the university, except the Home Sciences courses, allow both men and women to avail of the hostel facilities. For Home Sciences, only female students can opt for hostel facilities. CAU hostel has facilities such as wifi, a modern kitchen, separate hostel buildings for men and women, and more. The hostels are supervised by wardens.

Library Facilities: All the 13 constituent colleges of the Central Agricultural University Imphal has a digitally interlinked library. CAU Imphal library is well equipped and is available round the clock. Libraries in the constituent colleges of the Central Agricultural University Imphal have access to fast internet and online journals. These libraries are maintained by professional librarians hired by the university.

Smart Classrooms: CAU Imphal has an adequate number of seats in the classrooms of all 13 colleges. These classrooms are smart classrooms fitted with technology such as closed circuit cameras, smart blackboards, sanitary lavatories, free high-speed internet, and more. Every college also has a separate computer lab where students can visit and research their subjects. All the classrooms are well furnished and are maintained regularly. 

Canteen Facilities: All the constituent colleges of Central Agricultural University Imphal have well-organised and hygienic canteens located within the college campus. The food is prepared freshly every day, and the canteen is assessable to the students and staff of the college. The food prices at the CAU canteen are kept nominal and based on the market price of the surrounding area. A committee of CAU monitors the hygienic and nutritional value of the food prepared in the canteen.

Extra-curricular activities: Central Agricultural University Imphal also focuses on extracurricular activities. All the constituent colleges of the university have well-managed games and sports infrastructures, including all-season indoor facilities, an auditorium and a gymnasium. The Central Agricultural University Imphal also organises an annual ‘Inter-Collegiate Games & Sports Meet and Youth Festival.’ 

NSS Programmes: The Central Agricultural University Imphal has availed the National Social Service (NSS) scheme by opening NSS cells in all 13 constituent colleges. CAU Imphal also organises several welfare programmes like blood donation camps, tree plantation, water harvesting, sanitation, health and hygiene activities, eco-environmental conservation and preservation etc. The CAU Imphal also organises animal health camps, field visits, seminars on stress management, communal harmony weeks with poster campaigns and other community service-related activities at regular intervals.

Experimental fields: CAU Imphal focuses on the practical learning part, and that is why in all the constituent colleges of the university where there is an agriculture-related programme being taught, students get access to experimental fields which are located inside the college campuses. Students may go for experiential learning projects from time to time.

Medical facilities:  All the 13 constituent colleges of CAU Imphal has a well-equipped medical unit located inside the college campus. Students and staff at these constituent colleges can visit the medical unit for regular health check-ups. These medical units operate 24X7 in all campuses with well-qualified resident medical officers assisted by compounder cum dresser, trained nurses and attendants.
