Established in the year 1986, Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University (HNGU) is a state higher-education institution located in the city of Patan, Gujarat. The Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University was initially established as the North Gujarat University by the Ordinance No. 5 of 1986 which was later passed as the North Gujarat University Act No.22 of 1986 by the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat. HNGU was carved out of Gujarat University whose Headquarter is presently at Ahmedabad. The university began to serve 41 colleges in the districts of Banaskantha, Mehsana and Sabarkantha.
