National Law Exams of India Eligibility Criteria

The first step that has to be taken by a candidate before applying for an entrance exam is to check the eligibility criteria for the same. Candidates who fail in meeting the eligibility criteria of the particular law entrance exam will not be considered for admission despite having successfully completed the application process. Therefore, it is mandatory for all law aspirants to check the eligibility criteria of national law entrance exams before proceeding with the application process. The general eligibility criteria for the exams have been given below.

For Admission to Undergraduate Law Courses:

  • In order to be eligible for UG law courses offered in India, the student has to complete his/ her education up to class 12th.
  • The school from which the candidate clears his/ her higher secondary education must be affiliated to a recognised board of education like the CBSE, the ISC, or any state board.
  • Candidates have to receive passing marks in all the subjects that they have at the 10 + 2 level.
  • Additionally, the aggregate marks scored by the candidates in class 12th board examinations should not be less than 45 per cent to 50 per cent.

For Admission to Postgraduate Law Courses:

  • Candidates seeking admission to a PG law course have to complete their education up to the graduation level.
  • They must have an undergraduate degree in law. It can be an integrated law course or an LLB degree that is done after a graduation course.
  • The university under which candidates obtain their bachelor degree must be recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
  • The aspirant must have passed in all the subjects of graduation and his/ her aggregate score in the undergraduate degree should be at least 45 per cent to 50 per cent.

Who is the conducting body of the LFAT law exam?

The University of Allahabad administers the Law Faculty Admission Test (LFAT) to candidates seeking admission to the five-year Integrated LLB (Hons) programme provided by the Faculty of Law and its constituent colleges. The University of Allahabad administers the test on a national level using a pen-and-paper format.

Which is more difficult, AILET or CLAT?

AILET is a slightly more difficult national level law exam as compared to CLAT. Passing the AILET exam will get you admission to the prestigious NLU, Delhi whereas passing the CLAT exam will allow you to take admission in any one of the 22 NLUs in India. The number of seats available for AILET are lesser as compared to CLAT and the volume of candidates are high for both the exams which make AILET a slightly tougher exam when compared to CLAT.
 

Is LSAT India 2023 application open?

There is no official information from the Law School Admission Council that conducts LSAT India exam in India. The LSAT India exam will tentatively be conducted in January 2023.

Can I study law without the national level law entrance exams?

Yes, candidates can study either a five-year integrated LLB or three-year LLB degree without a national level law entrance exam. In such cases, the admission is done on merit basis in the qualifying exam, and such admission is mostly provided by private law schools in India.

Is application open for AILET 2023?

Yes, the application process for AILET 2023 is currently ongoing. The last date to apply for the exam is November 15, 2022.

What is the application fee for CLAT 2023?

The application for CLAT 2023 is INR 4000 for the general category and INR 3500 for the SC/ST categories.
