How to Prepare for AIBE 2018

To practice law officially in India, law aspirants need to clear AIBE. All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is conducted to test an advocate’s ability and skills to practice law in India. AIBE is a national-level entrance exam by the Bar Council of India (BCI). This exam is for those who have the law degree and are looking at getting the ‘Certificate of Practice’ in law. The certificate will be provided by the BCI for the qualified candidates. The exam came into existence in 2010 when the Legal Education Committee and BCI members passed a notification regarding the exam, and it is held bi-annually every year.

The written exam will take place in 40 cities across India in 11 languages. It will be held on December 23, 2018. It is an open book exam wherein candidates can carry their study materials with them. Candidates need to score a minimum of 40% to clear AIBE and an advocate who doesn’t have this certificate is not eligible to practice law in India.

The application process for AIBE 2018 is already underway and the online registration will close on December 10. Applicants can register for AIBE XIII only in the online mode and they need to fill in their personal details, question paper language preference and exam centre preference.

AIBE XIII exam has a total of 100 questions to be completed in three hours and thirty minutes. Maximum marks that one can score is 100 and the questions are objective in nature. The exam will be conducted in offline mode. Each question has one mark and there is no negative marking.

Since there is not much time left for the students to prepare, let’s take a look at some strategies that can help candidates prepare thoroughly for the upcoming exam.

Time Management

This is one of the most important factors about the exam. Candidates need to manage their time efficiently after getting a fair idea of the exam pattern and syllabus. They can focus on their weak areas and devote more time to that. It is advisable to prepare a timetable.

Study Material

It is important to pick up the right books and study material. Opt for books by renowned authors as they will be credible and choose wisely as there will be plenty of books available in the market. Candidates can also take help from study materials that are easily available online.

Sample Papers

It is a good practice to refer to previous years’ question papers/mock tests as they will help candidates analyse their performance and see how they fare. Practicing mock tests will help candidates become familiar with the exam pattern, marks distribution etc. They will also know which subjects carry more marks.

Points to Remember While Preparing for AIBE

There are a few important pointers which the students should remember while preparing for AIBE.

  • Since all the questions in the exam will be from different topics, it makes sense to not focus on just one topic. Students should prepare all the topics.

  • It is better to prepare well in advance so that there is ample time left to focus on working on the weak areas.

  • Candidates need to be very consistent with their preparation and must cover the whole syllabus of AIBE.

  • Practice well how to write the answers to the questions.

  • Learn how to manage time efficiently as that is one of the most important factors.

  • It is important to stay updated with every official notification for AIBE. Candidates can refer to the official website of the Bar Council of India for the same.

  • Speed in answering questions also matters and for that thorough preparation is important.
