SPJIMR Selection Process

Based in the financial capital of India, SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) was established in 1981. SPJIMR is one of the premier B-Schools in India and is popular for the various types of programmes and the flexibility it offers in management education.

The institution is located in the western suburbs of Andheri, Mumbai. There are numerous short term and long term programmes offered by SPJIMR. Following are the three most popular MBA programmes offered by the institute:

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)
  • Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in International Management (PGCIM)

SPJIMR does not conduct its own entrance exam and therefore it accepts the score of various globally recognised scores depending upon the programme.

Corresponding to the Programmes are the exam scores that are accepted for admission:

The selection process is done in two phases that vary depending upon the type of programme a student has applied to. The table given below defines the phase-wise description of the selection process set up by SPJIMR:

PGDM Candidates have to send their applications for admissions basis which candidates are shortlisted for the phase 1. Performance of a candidate in the entrance exam is evaluated and they have to clear a psychometric test and a common written test to be shortlisted for the final phase of selection. Shortlisted candidates have to clear the two rounds of Group Discussion in order to take admission in the PGDM programme offered by the institute.
PGPM Candidates are shortlisted for the first round solely on the basis of entrance exam scores. The scores of candidates and different entrance exams are normalised basis which a merit list is prepared and the candidates are called for phase 2 of selection process, Shortlisted candidates are called for Personal Interview (PI) round. Based on the composite scores of entrance exam and Personal Interview, admissions to the PGPM programme are done.
PGCIM Score of different entrance exams are considered for admission. Candidates have to qualify the required minimum cutoffs of the entrance exams in order to be shortlisted for the phase 2 of the selection process. All shortlisted candidates have to clear the Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds to take admission in PGCIM programme.

There is a pre-defined cut-off for every exam that a candidate must clear in order to be eligible for the counselling process.

Sectional cutoffs are not applicable for GMAT scores, however, SPJIMR has a defined sectional cutoff for CAT and XAT scores.

The cutoff may change each year depending on the level of difficulty, the number of students who applied and highest score achieved in any entrance exams.

SPJIMR also considers overall academic performance and diversity factors for admission to the various courses it offers. Marks for gender diversity are given to girls in order to maintain a stable male to female ratio. Although the maximum number of students enrolled in SPJMIR are engineers, the institute takes measures to take in students from different educational and professional backgrounds.
