National Institute of Science and Technology is situated in Palur Hills, in southern Odisha, well connected by roads and railways. The campus is widespread over 60 acres of land, comprises of five main buildings viz. the Lecture Hall Complex (LHC), Octagon, Galleria, Atrium, and TIFAC Core. The college provides all types of facilities like modern computer centre, internet room, a computerized library, student activities centre, cafeteria, 16 lecture halls, 250-seating capacity auditorium. Moreover, full furnished boys' hostel, and girls' hostel, a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor/outdoor sports courts, an aquarium building, transportation facility is provided by the college.

NIST Astronomy CLUB was established in October 2011. Taking the initiative, the club members assembled the Meade 2000 reflection refraction telescope and used it to see the moon, stars and some planets for the first time inside NIST campus.
