Chitkara University has secured a place among the global top 500 for Computer Science & Information Systems in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, ranking 22nd in India and placed in the 451–500 band worldwide. The ranking positions the University alongside globally competitive institutions, highlighting how its computer science education is being shaped by industry collaboration, applied learning, and its academic and research environment.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluated 18,300 programs across more than 1,700 universities in 100 countries. The methodology is based on academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, and the H-index. These indicators assess both global perception and the impact of research output.

For students and families assessing higher education choices, this ranking offers an external and comparable benchmark. It is based on global academic and employer surveys, along with research performance. In a discipline as competitive as computer science, inclusion in this global band reflects consistency across teaching, research, and industry engagement.

Ben Sowter, QS Senior Vice President, commented on the broader context of this year’s rankings:

"The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 highlight a global higher education landscape that is becoming both more competitive and more specialised. While traditional leaders in the US, UK, and parts of Europe continue to dominate many disciplines, we are seeing significant momentum from systems across Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. Institutions are increasingly building global reputations through targeted subject excellence, research collaboration, and industry engagement. This year's results show that strategic investment in specific disciplines – not just overall institutional strength – is becoming a defining feature of how universities compete and gain international recognition."

How the Computer Science Curriculum is Structured

One of the defining aspects of Chitkara University’s approach to computer science is the way its curriculum is designed. Rather than relying solely on academic committees, the University works directly with technology companies to shape and update its programs.

Microsoft has co-developed the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning specialisation, where students work with platforms such as Azure and enterprise-level tools. AWS has designed the Cloud Computing specialisation, allowing students to build on live infrastructure instead of simulations.

This approach reduces the gap between academic learning and industry practice. The curriculum evolves alongside developments in the technology sector, ensuring that students are exposed to current tools and systems.

Artificial intelligence is integrated across the computer science program as a foundational layer. It is embedded within areas such as data science, cybersecurity, and full-stack development. Students are also introduced to domains such as app development and game design, enabling them to develop both breadth and depth in their learning.

Centres of Excellence and Learning Environment

Chitkara University’s Centres of Excellence are designed to replicate professional environments rather than conventional academic labs. These centres are developed with industry partners and operate using real-world tools and workflows.

Key facilities include an iOS Development Centre developed with Apple and Infosys, a Games Innovation Centre supported by Jio, and a Code Experience Centre with Capgemini that mirrors enterprise software development environments.

The University has also established specialised labs with IBM, Cisco, Google, and Microsoft across areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, high-performance computing, and computational intelligence. This infrastructure allows students to engage with industry-standard systems during their academic journey.

Pathways for Different Student Backgrounds

Chitkara University offers multiple entry pathways for students interested in technology careers through its diverse Chitkara University courses. The BCA with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is designed for students who may not come through traditional engineering routes.

The program covers programming languages such as C, C++, Java, and Python, followed by advanced areas including neural networks, natural language processing, and data mining. Internships and live projects are integrated into the curriculum, ensuring that students gain applied experience alongside academic learning.

Graduates from this pathway move into roles across the technology sector, supported by the same industry network that engages with engineering programs.

International Academic Pathways

The University has established structured academic pathways with institutions in the United States, Australia, and Canada. These pathways allow students to complete part of their degree abroad with credit transfer options.

Arizona State University contributes to academic collaboration and curriculum development. Deakin University provides mentorship and transfer pathways. York University offers structured credit transfer options as part of its engagement.

These collaborations enable students to experience different academic environments while continuing to progress within their degree framework.

Internships, Placements, and Industry Network

Internships at Chitkara University are compulsory and credit-bearing, and are arranged through an active industry network. Students are not required to source these opportunities independently.

Companies providing internship and placement opportunities include Microsoft, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, and Zscaler. For engineering students, more than 750 companies recruit from campus, including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Deloitte, Cognizant, HCL, and Wipro.

Chitkara University highest package recorded has reached Rs 1.1 crore. While outcomes vary across roles and specialisations, the scale of recruitment reflects sustained engagement with industry.

Reflecting on this approach, Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University, said:

"When Microsoft co-develops a curriculum with us, when Apple and Infosys build a development centre on our campus, when Jio invests in a games innovation lab here  the curriculum stays current not because we update it but because the people shaping it are already working on what is next. The QS ranking tells us this approach is being recognised globally. Our students' placement outcomes tell us it is working on the ground."

What This Means for Students

For students considering computer science, the ranking provides a useful reference point. At the same time, the structure of the program, its connection to industry, and the learning environment play an equally important role.

At Chitkara University, the approach combines industry-led curriculum design, access to professional-grade infrastructure, compulsory internships, international academic pathways, and a broad recruiter network. Together, these elements shape how students move from academic study to professional roles, aligning their learning with current industry expectations.
