    NExT Exam (National Exit Test): Exam Dates, Details, Paper Pattern, Marking Scheme

    NEXT or National Exit Test is a common exit exam conducted to promote meritorious medical students to practice medicine in their respective fields or even pursue higher education. As part of being an exit exam, NExT is also the common gateway to attaining a license to practice medicine across IndiaNExT Step 1 exam will be held in December 2023 tentatively. It will replace NEET PG and FMGE exams from 2024 onwards.

    The National Medical Commission (NMC), in its new draft, announced that the test will be held in two stages respectively: NExT step 1 and NExT step 2. While NExT step 1 will be a centralized common all-India examination comprising MCQ-type questions, NExT Step 2 will be a Clinical/ practical examination along with Viva Voce covering seven clinical subjects/disciplines. Candidates can attempt the NExT exam as many times as necessary. There is no restriction around the same. 

    NExT Exam - Test Conducting body

    As of now, no official announcement regarding who will be the exam conducting body for the test has been made. As per a few media reports, the National Board of Examination is considered to be the front-runner as it is already conducting NEET PG and FMGE exams.     Objectives of NExT Exam

    Keeping in mind the statements made above, here are some of the objectives of NEXT exit ema for MBBS. We will also talk about the changes that will come under the new exit and licentiate exam which will become mandatory for MBBS graduates to clear, in order to be deemed as qualified doctors.

    • Through NEXT, the Centre plans to produce a more qualified and skilled batch of MBBS graduates in India. With the help of introducing a much deeper understanding of concepts and enhancing the skills with reference to problem-solving in the final MBBS students. A more practical aspect will be brought in through the examination as well.

    • Apart from being an exit test for MBBS students in India, NEXt will also cater to aspirants who completed their MBBS from abroad but wish to practice medicine in India. Earlier, such candidates were to sit for Foreign Medical Graduate Exam or commonly known as FMGE. With the implementation of the Bill, it is expected to see FMGE be replaced by NEXT as well.

    • Recent Amendments state that the examination will also be the common denominator for granting admissions to postgraduate medical courses in India, subsequently replacing NEET-PG.

    • Along with being an entrance, licentiate and screening test, a common counselling process will also be conducted under NEXT for admissions to MBBS and PG medical courses in India.

    FMGE 2023 Application Form Correction: Dates, Process, Details to Edit

    FMGE 2023 Application Form is expected to be released in the month of March 2023. Students need to visit the official website of the National Board of Education (NBE) in order to participate in the FMGE Registration process 2023. FMGE Screening Test is a national-level exam that enables aspiring foreign medical graduates to continue their post-graduation in India. As per the FMGE 2023 Eligibility Criteria, students can sit for the exam after their undergraduate degree and certification from relevant authorities is required in order to appear for the FMGE exam and get admission in premier medical institutions around the country in courses such as MD/MS/PG Diploma/post-MBBS DNB/ NBE.

    The conducting body has provided the opportunity to upload all the required documents in the FMGE application form till the last week of March 2023 (tentatively). The FMGE Application Correction Window will be open from April 2023. The FMGE 2023 Exam is likely to be held in June 2023.     NEET UG 2023: NTA gives clarification on cutoff date for SC, ST Certificate

    NEET UG 2023: NTA gives clarification on cutoff date for SC, ST Certificate

    NEET UG 2023: The National Testing Agency (NTA), in recent news, clarified that no cut off date for SC/ ST certificate in favour of respective students has been set. The clarification was issued by the NTA official on the website — neet.nta.nic.in. The notification also states that Clause 6.2.3 of the NEET (UG) – 2023 information bulletin has been amended accordingly. One can refer to Para (1) and para (2) of Appendix - XB to get a clear understanding around the SC/ ST certification.

    NTA further has clarified that no cutoff date is applicable in the submission SC/ ST certificate format given at Appendix-XA, nor any other detail is mentioned in the NEET UG 2023 application form. In case students have any doubts regarding this notification, they can reach out to the official authorities at 011-

    40759000 or email at neet@nta.ac.in. The public notice has been issued on March 14, 2023, for aspirants reference.

    Meanwhile, Mr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, issued a statement in the Parliament that an
    increase of 97 percent in MBBS seats will be witnessed. The seats have been increased from 51,348 before 2014 to 1,01,043 as of 2023. Out of the total seats available 52,778 are allotted in the government medical colleges and the remaining 48,265 are allotted to the private medical colleges.
