NEET 2023 Reservation Policy: All India Quota

Lakhs of medical aspirants apply for NEET every year. In order to simplify the MBBS admission process and to allow more candidates to pursue this course from top medical colleges of India, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced the NEET Reservation Policy, defining the number of seats reserved in each college for candidates belonging from different categories.

The NEET 2023 reservation policy highlights the reserved percentage of seats allotted to AIQ, State Quota, OBC and EWS categories. According to the NTA, out of the total number of seats in all MBBS/BDS colleges in each state, 15% seats will be reserved for All India Quota (AIQ) seats.

NEET 2023 Reservation Policy: State Quota

Under the State Quota, students will be offered 85% of the medical seats in the medical colleges of the respective state. Here, the students, who are a domicile of the State or Union Territory, will be able to try and take admission under the state quota.

Earlier in 2019, NTA released a notification clearing the doubts of the applicants, on whether they can apply for both quotas. As per the notification, all candidates are eligible for the All India Quota, irrespective of the state or Union Territory they have chosen. Therefore, all candidates will be able to take admission under the All India Quota and State Quota as well. Students who are not able to secure a seat under the All India Quota will be eligible for one of the medical seats under the State Quota.

The guidelines for NEET 2023 reservation policy for state quota seats are set by the state counselling authorities on the basis of the prevailing reservation policies. It is crucial to note that all the states have their own reservation policies and therefore, they vary.
Moreover, the admission process of both government and dental colleges of each state is governed by the concerned state counselling authorities. Thus, some of the mentioned policies may or may not be at par with the NEET 2023 reservation policy.
