In 1977, Govt. of Rajasthan decided to establish Government College in Suratgarh with the noble aim to facilitate the easy access to the higher education for the youth of the region which is a harmonious blend of rural and urban cultures. Under the political leadership of Sh. Gurusharan Chabra, local MLA and sincere devotion of local public, Government College Suratgarh started its journey in 1977-1978 from the two rooms in the premises of Seth Ram Dayal Rathi Govt. Secondary School, Surtatgarh. Late Pt. Kedarnath Sharma, Home Minister in State Govt. laid the foundation stone for the present building on 17 Dec. 1977. The second academic session was conducted in a local inn, popularly known as Sarda Dharmshala and in the subsequent session, college was shifted to its present building."Jnanm Param Balam", "Knowledge is power". Education is not restricted to mere literacy. It is a dynamic process which strengthens the students to meet the challenges successfully and to make the best use of their capacity to make the world a better place to live.The institution is committed to invigorate the rural youth to materialize their dreams and to nurture future citizens towards excellence. Education sets the stage for lively pageant of vibrant vigour and enthusiastic energy treasured in our youth. Our institution aims to amplify the prowess of the students, to activate energy lying dormant in them, to accelerate their speed to keep pace with the changing world. The institution works through the principle of teacher-student interaction to unfurl the immense potential lying locked in our youth. The curricular as well the co-curricular activities are planned in a way to make the students, more integrated development of their personality. The institution provides them well-furnished library to equip them with the vast treasure of knowledge; sports facility to ensure their physical well-being:; NSS and Rovering to prepare a solid ground for their socialization.In a learner-centered, learner-friendly environment, the institution is committed to brighten the lives of the students of the nearby villages and remote hamlets.

The book collection of the library counts the number more than 21,000 which includes all the category of books like text, general, reference and competition. It subscribes 7 newspapers of both Hindi and English language, 18 magazines and Journals . Library has a separate well-furnished reading room with sitting capacity of 100 readers. The library is undergoing the process of complete automation so as to provide international linkages and also to serve as a ready reckoner to the colleges in the periphery. To cater to the needs of the financially weaker section of the students , the library also runs a full fledged Book Bank. A girl's Hostel accommodating 40 girls,is constructed with UGC grant to facilitate Girls's access to higher education and to promote an environment of learning in a h ome away from home. A language lab has been established in the College. There is one master console with headphones and microphone. This comprises the teacher unit and 20 student units with headphones and microphones for each student. A sound system with one class room speaker and two amplifiers for recording is also available. The lab is well equipped with computer laser printer and scanner. The unit is being used to make displays and power-point presentation.
