Guru Nanak College - GNC
The Guru Nanak College, Chennai was established in the year 1971 at Velacheryas a Unit of Guru Nanak Educational Society to mark the 500th birthday of the founder of Sikh religion Shri Guru Nanak Devji. The objective of the college is to spread the principles of Universal brotherhood, communal harmony, the oneness of God, and welfare to all religions and communities. The College is being run as a minority community college within the meaning of Articles 29 and 30 of the Indian Constitution. The college’s mission and vision is to provide high quality value based education develop the personality traits of students, to impart knowledge and ethics to all the learners and equipping the staff with quality based training and ensuring progress in the system by teamwork and periodical reviews. The college has a Hostel Building, to cater the need of the limited number of boys only. The building is named as the Punjab Block for it was inaugurated by the Punjab Ex-Chief Minister Sardar Gurnam Singh in April 1973. There are Students from three to four states of India living together with a large number of TamilNadu and thus foster regional understandings, national unity and communal harmony. Providing quality education by access to high quality value based education, developing personality traits, imparting knowledge and skill to all the learners irrespective of caste, creed, religion or wealth, equipping the staff through need based training AND ensuring continual growth in the system by teamwork and periodical reviews.
The college has been consistently placing more than 500 students annually in ITES, IT, ITIS and other more sectors.A good number of companies including Sutherland, HCL, WIPRO, TCS, TALLY, SERVION, CTS, KEANE, MAHINDRA HOLIDAYS IDBI, AJUBA etc are our recruiters.Placement cell functions at the Ground Floor of RAJA RANJIT SINGH BLOCK. Students are advised to go through the Notice Board of the placement cell for relevant information on placement Schedule.The Management, Principal, Estate in-charge and our faculty are highly co-operative and supportive in providing the required infrastructure and hospitality for the recruiting companies.A special mention shall be made about the initiative by TCS titled ‘ Employability Training Programme’ for the second year in succession, as part of their CSR activities. They provided 80 hours training in English communication and Corporate etiquette to the SC/ST students, free of cost. At the end of the training, they were tested and in the first round 30 students were given offer letters for jobs in TCS. Two trainers were engaged by TCS for the job.
