Institute of Science (formerly known as Government Science College) was established as Victoria Science College in the year 1906. It is one of the oldest science and academic research center in Central India run by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Govt. of Maharashtra, Mumbai. Institute of Science is famous for excellent research and currently, 153 scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. under numerous departments. The college provides UG and PG programs in various specializations including Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electronics, Environmental Science, Botany and Zoology. It also offers Ph.D. Program in numerous specializations. Institute of Science, Nagpur is affiliated with the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and accredited with “Grade B” by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). It also has been awarded for Excellence in Pure Science Higher Education by the University Grant Commission (UGC). The college is located in the heart of the city with all the modern facilities including Auditorium, Library, Laboratory, Sports, Gymkhana and Canteen. It also provides separate hostel facilities for all the boys and girls. Placement facility is also available at Institute of Science, Nagpur.
