How to search your name in the PDF: Once the PDF opens, press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac) and type your full name or application number exactly as it appears on your admission form. Merit list PDFs can run to 50–100+ pages for popular colleges — don't scroll manually.

What the MU Merit List PDF Shows

The Mumbai University merit list PDF contains these details for each shortlisted student:

  • Candidate's full name
  • Application / form number
  • Category (Open / OBC / SC / ST / EWS / PwD)
  • Class 12 percentage
  • Merit rank within that category
  • Course and stream applied for

Some colleges also include the minimum qualifying cutoff at the bottom of the PDF. If the cutoff is mentioned, it tells you the lowest percentage that made the list in that round.

Mumbai University Cutoff 2026: College-wise Expected Cutoffs

Mumbai University does not publish a single cutoff list. Each affiliated college sets its own cutoff based on the number of applications received and seats available. The figures below are expected based on MU 2025's first merit list data. Actual 2026 cutoffs will depend on HSC results and application volume.

Important: These are expected figures, not official 2026 cutoffs. The actual MU cutoff 2026 will be released with the official merit list. Always verify on your college's official portal once the list is out.

Also Read:

How Much Do Cutoffs Drop in Later Rounds?

Cutoffs fall in each subsequent MU merit list round because seats left unfilled are carried forward. Based on 2025 first, second, and third merit list data across MU colleges:

Merit List Round

BCom Cutoff Range (Open Category)

Approximate Drop

1st Merit List

93–98%

2nd Merit List

88–94%

~3–5% drop

3rd Merit List

83–90%

~4–5% drop

4th Merit List

78–86%

~4–5% drop

Source: University of Mumbai affiliated college merit lists, 2025–26. Unofficial/third-party; verify from official website.

This means a student with 89% who misses the first merit list cutoff at a college setting 93% has a strong chance at the 2nd or 3rd round. Don't give up after the first list.

Mumbai Universirty Seat Reservation 2026: Category-wise

Mumbai University follows the Maharashtra Government's reservation policy. Each category gets its own separate merit list within every college.

Category

Seat Reservation

Open (General)

~50% of total seats

OBC (Other Backward Class)

19%

SC (Scheduled Caste)

13%

ST (Scheduled Tribe)

7%

VJ/NT (Vimukta Jati / Nomadic Tribes)

11%

EWS (Economically Weaker Section)

10% of Open seats

PwD (Persons with Disability)

5% (horizontal reservation)

Source: University of Mumbai Admission Regulations 2024–25. As per Maharashtra Government reservation norms.

Reserved category cutoffs are significantly lower. In 2024, the SC category cutoff for BCom at Mithibai College was in the 45–50% range, against an Open category cutoff of 94–96% for the same course in the same round.

Also, 85% of total seats across MU colleges are reserved for Maharashtra domicile students. Out-of-state students compete for the remaining 15% only.

What to Do After Your Name Appears in MU Merit List 2026

Getting listed is step one. Missing the next steps means losing the seat permanently.

Step 1 — Report to the College Within the Deadline

Visit the college on the date mentioned against your name in the merit list. Most colleges give a 2–3 day window. Seats are automatically cancelled for students who don't report — there's no extension.

Step 2 — Document Verification

Carry these documents in original along with 2 sets of photocopies each:

  • Class 12 Marksheet (original)
  • Class 10 Certificate (for date of birth)
  • School Leaving Certificate
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Domicile / Nationality Certificate
  • Caste Certificate — if SC / ST / OBC / NT / VJ
  • Income Certificate — if applying under EWS (family income below ₹8 lakh per year)
  • Migration Certificate — if from a board other than Maharashtra HSC
  • 4–6 recent passport-size photographs
  • Gap Certificate — if applicable

Document verification at colleges like Mithibai and St. Xavier's typically takes 30–45 minutes due to queues. Arrive early and keep all documents in a pre-arranged clear file.

Step 3 — Pay the Admission Fees

Your seat is confirmed only after fee payment. Payment is made online or at the college fee counter. Missing the fee payment deadline — even after document verification — cancels the seat.

Approximate annual fees at MU-affiliated colleges:

  • Government-aided colleges: ₹3,000–₹8,000 per year
  • Private (unaided) colleges: ₹15,000–₹60,000 per year

For complete fee details, check the Mumbai University admission 2026 process.

Does Your Board (CBSE vs HSC) Affect Admission?

Mumbai University does not normalise marks across boards. Your Class 12 percentage from any board — HSC (Maharashtra), CBSE, ICSE, or any other — is used directly as-is in the merit list.

A CBSE student scoring 95% and an HSC student scoring 95.4% compete on the same merit list. There is no board-wise adjustment.

In practice, HSC students tend to score higher percentage-wise in Commerce subjects than CBSE students. If you're from CBSE and targeting a high-cutoff college like HR College or Xavier's, factor this into your shortlist.

FAQs

The Mumbai University first merit list 2026 will be released on May 26, 2026. The list will be available on muadmission.samarth.edu.in and individual MU affiliated college websites.

The MU merit list is prepared purely on Class 12 percentage. There is no separate entrance exam for BA, BCom, and BSc UG programmes. Higher marks in your qualifying examination mean a higher rank on the list. For courses like BMS and BAF at certain autonomous colleges (e.g., St. Xavier's), an entrance test (XET) is also required alongside marks. For standard aided programmes, Class 12 percentage alone determines ranking

There is no single minimum cutoff — it varies by college and round. Based on 2025 data, the first merit list BCom cutoff at top MU colleges ranged from 95–98% for Open category. For mid-tier colleges, it was 82–90%. By the second merit list, cutoffs dropped to 88–94% for BCom at top colleges. For reserved categories (SC/ST), BCom cutoffs were in the 45–55% range at most colleges. Actual MU cutoff 2026 figures will be published with the official merit list.

Yes. During the online enrolment process on muadmission.samarth.edu.in, you can indicate preferences for multiple MU-affiliated colleges and courses. However, once you complete document verification and pay fees at one college, that becomes your confirmed admission. You can't hold seats at two colleges simultaneously. If you're shortlisted at a preferred college in a later round, you'd need to cancel the earlier admission (fees may not be refunded) to take the new one.

If you don't report for document verification or don't pay the admission fees within the stated window (usually 2–3 days after the merit list release), your seat is automatically cancelled. The seat is then released to the next eligible candidate in the waitlist or carried forward to the next merit list round. There is generally no reinstatement or extension process. Always treat the deadline as absolute.
