Ness Wadia College of Commerce - NWCC Pune - NWCC

The background of the Ness Wadia College of Commerce can be traced back to June 1959 when the first Pre-degree Commerce class was started under the auspices of the Modern Education Society. The class then used to be held in the adjacent building of the Nowrosjee Wadia College of Arts and Science. In the years that followed the endeavor met with an increasingly enthusiastic response from the student community and soon a need to establish a full-fledged commerce college was keenly felt. In 1969, the Commerce wing, thus, came to be established as an independent college of commerce, named after Sir Ness Wadia, (1873-1952), the renowned industrialist and philanthropist of his times. Modern Education Society was established on February 15, 1932. True to Its credo 'For the Spread of Light', the Society pioneered efforts to open the portals of higher education to the residents of eastern parts of Pune and pursued them tirelessly through the last eighty resplendent years. The Society today has seven institutions in the bustling cities of Pune and Mumbai. Over the years, they have become the first choice to acquire an all-round quality education for many promising young men and women all over the country and abroad. It is a unique education society since the Board of Life members, the supreme decision making body of the Society and its Institutions, is made up entirely of teachers of these institutions, the management is intensely aware of the strengths, weaknesses and requirements of the Institution. As a result, the policies of the management are in keeping with the interests of the teachers, the non-teaching staff and the students.
