St.Josephs Evening College - SJEC Bangalore - SJEC

Established in 1972 as a section of St. Joseph’s College, St. Joseph’s Evening College became an independent college in 1972 and was recognized as an independent college by the University of Bangalore in the same year. Managed by the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society for the education of working men and women, the College rendered yeoman service for the education of the underprivileged and the marginalized. The members of the Catholic Religious Order known as the Society of Jesus are running this institution. They are committed to promote “faith and Justice” among people of all goodwill. It is this commitment that has made it possible for the college to achieve eminence among educational institutions in the country. It is the first and the only Evening College in the Country to be conferred ‘autonomous’ status. The College has gone through two cycles of assessment and accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Inspiration of the college is derived from the founder of the Society of Jesus, St. Ignatius of Loyola. He founded it in 1540 to work for the ‘greater glory of God’, with a group of nine university men gifted with conscience, compassion and competence. Their first educational institutions were established to prepare students for change. Today, with a membership of around 20,000, the Jesuits labour all over the world in different fields. Education and especially higher education has always been one of their priority areas. In their 4,000 schools and colleges spread over five continents, they educate over 20 lakh students. Preparing students for social change has been their objective.  St. Joseph's Evening College (Autonomous) in Bangalore is the only autonomous Evening College in India. The College follows the ideologies of Jesuit education and constitutional view of contributing towards a society of equality, fraternity and liberty through an admission policy of preferential option for the poor. The College desires to provide quality education to as many young boys and girls from all sections of society, it proactively extends support to students who lack opportunities.

Language Lab
Language teachers across the globe regard themselves as educators as much as specialists in the teaching of verbal skills. The shifting emphasis in language teaching in the last decades from the study of language as a discipline in itself and as an entry into the literature of another people towards a practical skill in performance has brought many changes in method and materials. It has stimulated an interest into the nature of language learning and emphasized the need for a much clearer picture of the component skill in linguistic performance

The Canteen provides quality and refreshing food items. The canteen opens at 4.00 p.m., on all working days and closes at 8.30 p.m.
