Swami ganga Giri Janta Girls College, Raekot ,a peer educational institution was established on May 23, 1973. Swami Ganga Giri ji, ‘Udari’, was a saintly character, who was deeply impressed by the Arya Samaj and its founder, Swami Dayanand ji. Shradhanand ji laid stress on girl education and worked sternly for it. Swami Ganga Giri ji came to Raekot from village Chaundannear, Amargarh Distt. Sangrur. Swamiji bought a piece of land, and started leading a saintly life here. Before the establishment of College, the place was renowned as ‘Gurukul’. Swamiji breathed his last on 3 Sept, 1968. This college came into existence in his sweet memory. This college is being run by Arya Vidya Parishad, Panjab (Registered) through Local Managing Committee. The college is affiliated to and aided by Panjab University, Chandigarh. The farsightedness and philanthropic attitude of the founders and the managing committee has borne fruit. Ever since it’s inception with a humble infrastructure and limited number of courses, the college today, has grown into a multi-faculty Post Graduation institution catering to the academic and all round personality development requirements of the town and its vicinity. The institution has been encouraging its students whole heartedly in all the possible ways to promote excellence in character building. The college caters to the academic, co-curricular and sports related requirements of its aim of empowering women by developing their all round personalities so as to enable them to move confidently in the society.
