The William Light Institute - WLI
The William Light Institute has successfully developed a track record in providing high quality courses for international students. Our supportive, friendly student oriented environment has allowed many students to thrive whilst at the same time ensuring that our educational standards are of the highest order. The William Light Institute has also developed invaluable relationships with industry and this connectedness will ensure that we maintain the relevance of our courses to the job market. Over the past five years we have partnered with the University of Ballarat (now Federation University) in the delivery of high quality courses in business, accounting, information technology and nursing. Our last Federation University students finished their courses in November 2014. In a significant partnership with the Australian Computer Society, we are delivering the Professional Year Program (PYP) for international students who have obtained a computing/ICT qualification in Australia. The Professional Year Program will give participants points towards their application for permanent residency plus work experience in Australian organisations. Our first PYP started in January 2015 and we will have rolling intakes at our Adelaide campus as well as considering other locations. The William Light Institute’s innovative Teach in Australia program for overseas trained secondary maths and science teachers will now include an Academic English component spread over 44 weeks with our English language partner the South Australian College of English. The first intake for the combined Teach in Australia/Academic English is in 2016. Applications are still being taken for Teach in Australia. Our recent success in gaining accreditation for the Graduate Certificate in Wounds Management has generated significant interest around Australia and abroad. We plan to develop a range of industry driven new specialist courses in allied health over the next few years as well as re-introducing courses specific to nursing.
