At a distance of 32kms is the World's First natural salt lake LONAR formed by the falling of meteor many centuries ago. The entrance to the ashram is serene beauty with flower-gardens, water fountains and an imposing statue of Swami VivekanandaThe Ashram was founded, on 14th January 1965, by Pujya Shukadas Maharaj whose outstanding humanitarian services have earned for him many Honrs and Awards. " To be pure and to do good to Others; this is the gist of all worhship". So preached Swami Vivekananda an this is immortalised by Pujya Shukadas Maharaj who says " The inspiring Power behind me is Swami Vivekananda and I endeavour my utmost to live up to his ideals and teaching. During his wanderings on foot from village to village and into remote, tribal inhabited areas, Shukadas Maharaj had personally witnessed the prevailing pathetic living conditions of those poor, illiterate villagers and tribal folks and decided to do everything within his reach to mitigate their sufferings. The first work initiated by Shukadas Maharaj under the auspices of Vivekanand Ashram was the rehabilitation of the adivasi village Bhaurad of Washim District, in 1967. After that Shukadas Maharaj started several activities in and around the Ashram in Buldana District. The aims and objectives of Vivekanand Ashram are to work for the material and spiritual development of human beings by establishing Schools, Dispensaries and Hospitals, Shelters for orphans and disabled.
