Wildlife Institute of India - WII
Established in 1982, Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an internationally acclaimed Institution, which offers training program, academic courses and advisory in wildlife research and management. The Institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity related issues. The Institute's idyllic campus that has been carefully developed to create state of the art infrastructure encourages scholarly work. The National Wildlife Database Cell of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has been developing a National Wildlife Information System (NWIS) on the Protected Areas of the country. India has a network of 731 Protected Areas including 103 National Parks, 536 Wildlife Sanctuaries, 66 Conservation Reserves and 26 Community Reserves covering a total of 1,60,896.92 km2 of geographical area of the country which is approximately 4.89%. National Wildlife Database (NWD) is providing information on the conservation status of animal species, biogeographic regions, administrative units, habitat types and the network of protected areas in India, in a variety of formats and also providing an extensive bibliographic support for wildlife research. Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in its pursuit to strengthen conservation efforts is being increasingly faced with challenges and complexities for wildlife conservation amidst rapid economic development. Building capacities for environmental assessment of developmental projects in major sectors emerged as a priority for holistic conservation and management approaches. In response to this, an Environmental Impact Assessment Cell was established at the Wildlife Institute of India in 1993 with the following mandate : Promote integration of environmental considerations into developmental planning. Promote integration of biodiversity concerns in the environmental appraisal of development projects. Develop innovative methodologies, systems and tools that facilitate environmental assessment, efficient synthesis of environmental information and credible decision making. Build capacity of institutions and individuals through opportunities of training, workshops and placement. Provide advisory support for decision making at the apex level.

Wildlife Institute of India Placements
EIA Cell provides placement opportunities for the students pursuing academic and professional courses in Environmental Science offered by several institutions outside WII. These opportunities have been utilised by students from India and overseas.
The Wildlife Institute of India Campus harbours a total of 616 plant species comprised of 58 trees, 65 shrubs (including lianas), 357 herbs and climbers (vines) including 9 species of pteridophytes, 71 grasses and 27 sedges belonging to 107 families (99 Angiosperm and 8 Pteridophyte) with 384 genus (375 Angiosperm and 9 Pteridophyte). Of the total 616 plant species, 94% species are in wild and 6% species are planted.
An auditorium within the campus is a state-of-the-art facility having a seating capacity of above 300. It is fully air conditioned with excellent audio and lighting system, a spacious dais with over head LCD projection system. Microphones are provided in front of each chair which facilitates interactive sessions during various events.
The Institute has one guest house within the campus, situated near the Old Hostel. It has in total 10 elegantly furnished rooms, including two VIP suites.
All rooms are serviced by an emergency generator set and are also provided with telephones through an EPABX system. The reception desk works on a 24 hour basis.
The facility also includes a meeting hall with data ports for wireless internet connectivity. A dining room serviced by a kitchen provides homely and delicious food.
The guest house is operated as a non-profit facility and provides accommodation to institute guests and visitors, delegates and participants attending various conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops.
The institute is a residential institute and provides accommodation to students and trainees recruited under various academic programmes.
To ensure overall development of every resident, the institute provides all the required facilities for sports and recreation. There is a large playground and floodlit tennis, badminton and basketball courts.
A long nature trail around the artificial lake within the campus is used extensively for both jogging and walking by the students and faculty alike.
Each year faculty, researchers and staff participate in the Annual All India Forest Sports meet
