The conducting body of the ACT does not prescribe any minimum eligibility criteria or official prerequisite to be able to appear for the test. However, as the ACT is designed to measure the student's readiness to enter college, the candidate must have completed the high school studies. Fluency in English is another basic requirement for any candidate to fetch a decent score on the test.

ACT is considered as one of the most popular admission tests for testing the college readiness and admissions of the candidates in top US universities such as University of Illinois Springfield, SpringfieldCalifornia Institute of Technology PasadenaHarvard University, Cambridge, etc. However, most US colleges have turned into ACT test-optional. Colleges that have confirmed they will require ACT for admission in 2022 are the Georgia Institute of Technology, Florida State University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of Georgia etc.

COVID-19 Update

The registration site of ACT is officially reopened. Students can now Register for the ACT 2021 to take the test on the defined ACT Test Date 2021. There are no changes in the minimum requirements to take the ACT Test. However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the examinee is required to follow the safety guidelines at the test centres.

Detailed ACT Eligibility Criteria 2021

Anyone can apply for an ACT test irrespective of their academic grade levels or grade. The key points related to ACT Eligibility Criteria 2021 are mentioned below. 

  • Students in grades 6 through 9 can also apply for the test in addition to the graduates of high school.

  • Despite not possessing any eligibility criteria for the ACT, students are required to meet the course-wise eligibility criteria set by the desired college/university.

  • Since ACT test score is accepted for admission to most colleges in the US, it is generally taken by those above the age of 13 years or high school graduates.

  • Candidates who are under 13 years of age cannot create an online MyACT account. In such cases, the candidates must contact the ACT Customer Support for assistance and complete the registration.

  • Students must ensure to take the ACT at least 2 months prior to the application deadline of the college/institution. ACT score is declared around two-eight weeks after the ACT test.

  • There is no age or grade requirements to attempt the ACT exam. However, a candidate is required to be in possession of an International Debit/Credit card to register for the exam.

  • The applicant must be a valid international passport holder as it serves as a valid identification proof.

Yes. You can register for ACT and take ACT even if you have appeared in SAT.

8. Is there any limit for the number of attempts for the ACT?

Yes, each student will be given 12 attempts to take the test and improve their score, if necessary.

9. My age is 13 years. Can I appear in the ACT?

Yes. A student who is 13 years or above can appear in the ACT. However, to apply to a college or university in the US, candidates must have passed high school.

10. I am studying in Standard 6th. Can I appear in the ACT?

Yes. Students in grades 6th can apply for the ACT.
