Bournemouth University is a public university situated in the seaside town of Bournemouth, Dorset state, Germany. The university is commonly known as BU and was established in 1992. With the vision to be recognised as one of the most leading universities in higher education, Bournemouth University is on a continuous approach to use education as a tool to enrich society and inspire the whole world. The university completely stands up to its motto, Discere Mutari Est, which translates in English as ‘To learn is to be changed’. BU focuses on maintaining professional orientation and graduate employability to achieve academic excellence.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Bournemouth University offers more than 250 undergraduate and postgraduate courses (including doctoral degrees) in about 16 different fields of education. The various faculties of Bournemouth University are accommodated in two campuses. Major faculties of the university are present at the Talbot Campus of BU whereas, the Lansdowne Campus accommodates faculties like Social Sciences and Health. The university is celebrated for its courses in the field of Media, Management, Business and Hospitality, in fact, it is well recognised as the only centre to achieve excellence in media practice in the country.

The former media students of Bournemouth University have worked with many critically acclaimed franchise in Hollywood such as Star Wars, Lord of the Ring, etc. Other than this, the areas of expertise of BU include Forensic Science and Archaeology. Apart from providing an excellent education, the university is also situated at an amazing location which is a few miles away from the centre of the bustling town of Bournemouth. Some of the best beaches in Britain, Forest National Parks and harbours are present within an accessible distance from the university. It also encourages its students to volunteer and provides opportunities to experience diversity in cultures all around the world as the university is partnered with more than 100 academic institutions. In 2011, the university was the recipient of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, for ‘world-class computer animation teaching with wide scientific and creative applications.”

With the fusion of education, practical knowledge and research work, the university is currently providing higher education to up to 20,000 students. Out of the total strength of the Bournemouth University, about 1,500 students are international students that come from 130 different countries. Presently, the university has over 16,000 students including more than 3,000 international students.
With the primary objective to protect the health and safety of Bournemouth University’s community, the university is constantly monitoring the Covid-19 situation and introducing new measures as and when required. Here are the latest updates on the range of measures taken by the university to combat the spread of Coronavirus:
The university campus will remain open throughout the lockdown period (5 November-2 December), with physical distancing measures in place.
Facilities such as libraries, study spaces, limited catering and open access centres can be accessed by students on campus. Sports facilities will be closed.
According to the government’s advice, students on campus are tested twice a week.
The university is currently running a blended model- a combination of both online and face-to-face teaching.
BU’s application window for 2021 entry is open for undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses. The application process will not be affected by Covid-19 restrictions.
International students who begin their studies in their home country may apply for a student visa only when they plan to travel to the UK.
Upon arrival in the UK, one must self-isolate for 14 days before starting their studies.
Student accommodations at BU are open and available for students to book.
BU Academic Excellence Scholarship (International)
Value of Scholarship: £2,500 (tuition fee reduction in the first year of study)
Entry: For courses commencing in September 2021
The candidate must be an international student.
He/ she must be applying for any full-time undergraduate course offered by Bournemouth University.
Interested candidates must achieve equivalent to ABB or above at A-level.
BU Music Scholarships
Value of Scholarship: £600 per year
Entry: For courses commencing in January 2021, September 2021 and January 2022.
Application Deadline: 31st August (for courses commencing in September) and 30th November (for courses commencing in January)
Number of Seats Available: 15
The scholarship is open for any student including international applicants.
Candidates should be pursuing a full-time undergraduate course at the university.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate her/his music skills.
BU Sport Scholarship
Value of Scholarship: £500 to £5,000
Entry: For courses commencing in January 2021, September 2021 and January 2022
Application Deadline: 31st August (for courses commencing in September) and 30th November 20 (for courses commencing in January)
Number of Seats Available: 45-50
Candidates must qualify as an international student.
Candidates must be studying either a full-time undergraduate course.
Applicants should have proof of high performance in sports and should be willing to continue in the arena along with the academics.
