The University of Reading was established in 1892 as University College, Reading, an extension college of University of Oxford. It received its university status in 1926. The university is situated in Berkshire, UK. The University of Reading is a public institution and is considered as one of the leading research-intensive institutions in the UK. The QS World University Rankings 2021 of the University of Reading is 205. With over 90 years of establishment, the University of Reading has become a leading educational institution and is working continuously to bring positive social change through education, research and innovation.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The University of Reading has majorly four campuses. Three of them are present in the UK including the Whiteknights campus, Greenlands campus and London Road campus. The university has another campus at Iskandar Malaysia that was opened in February 2016. One of Reading’s business schools is located in Johannesburg, while the other one is in Malaysia. Various campuses of the University of Reading feature a film theatre, a sports park, four museums, lakes, 300,000 plant specimens, a cherry tree orchard and meadows. One can find over 1,400 species of plants, animals and fungi at the Whiteknights campus of the University of Reading. The wide range of programmes offered at the University of Reading in various areas of studies like Social Sciences, Arts, Pure & Applied Sciences, Humanities, Languages and Business are the most popular courses among international students.

University of Reading has a very strong global presence. 98 per cent of the University of Reading’s research has been rated of international standing by the Research Excellence Framework. The university has significant contribution in bringing social, economical and cultural changes in the UK and other major places around the world. The university has a community of alumni who are serving the society as professionals in various fields like science, technology, research, art, business, law, politics, entertainment, sports etc. across the globe. Some of them voluntarily support the university to achieve its goals.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
The University of Reading is home to more than 17,000 students who come from 150 different countries around the globe. More than 5000 students at the university are international students. The University of Reading’s Professional Placement Year is available for most of the programmes. It is an approach to meet the recruitment needs of students. The university has a strong collaboration with the recruiters at local, national and global level based on which they recruit students of the University of Reading each year. Students are usually placed for the month of June. The average placement salary is £19,000, however, it may vary depending on location and company.
COVID-19 Response
University of Reading will stay open under the Tier 4 guidelines of the UK. The Spring Term will begin from January 11 with a few programmes beginning from January 5.
The face to face classes will begin in phases in January with priority to practical learning and placement. Other classes will be held online to adhere to the government guidelines.
The blended approach, online learning with face-to-face sessions for students studying on campus will resume by January 25 in all schools.
Students are advised to follow the COVID 19 basic guidelines and for the safety purpose should try to travel in a private vehicle.

The Graduate Institute of International Development, Agriculture and Economics (GIIDAE) offers a wide range of scholarships to help students pursue master’s studies at the University of Reading.

Applicants must qualify as international or overseas students.
Candidates must have good academic records.
Students must not have accepted more than one scholarship or bursary from the Graduate Institute.

These scholarships are offered to Commonwealth eligible country that includes India. The Scholarship is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and is offered to students enrolled at a university in the UK. The aim of offering Commonwealth Scholarship is to improve the international development of the UK, support higher education and develop overseas relations.
The values of scholarships vary depending on a number of factors like the course opted, university and candidate’s overall profile.
