Founded in 1962, Punjabi University includes fifty-five teaching and research departments under its jurisdiction, with subjects provided including Arts, Humanities, and Sciences. The University features 20 regional centres and affiliated institutions on its 316-acre campus. Nowadays, Punjabi University provides Bachelor's, Master's, Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Advance Post Graduate Diploma, Certificate, and Doctoral degree programmes.

Applicants can apply for Punjabi University  admission both online and offline. Punjabi University provides studies in Pharmacy, Library Sciences, Management, Commerce, Languages, Computer Application, Performing Arts, Law, Engineering, and Business Administration. Certain courses at the institution also allow for lateral admission. In addition to traditional education, Punjabi University Patiala Distance Education has been developed to provide courses via remote mode.

• Entrance to BA, BHM, BPT, MA, M.Sc, and MCA programmes is based on qualifying examination results.

Admission to Punjabi University can be done through an entrance test or based on academic merit for a relevant degree.

Category A: The actions listed below must be followed by applicants seeking admission to programmes where admission is based on entrance exams:

1. Register on Punjabi University's official website.
2. Fill out the application (GATE/NET or other applicants who have passed an equivalent test must also do so).
3. Online application submission is required.
4. Save the admissions card.
5. show up for the test.
6. For an interview and counselling, the chosen candidates will be contacted.

Category B: The actions listed below must be followed by applicants seeking admission to the programme where admission is granted solely on the basis of merit:

1. Create an account on Punjabi University's official website.
2. Fill out the application.
3. Online submission of the application form.
4. The chosen candidates will be contacted for an interview and/or counselling.

General Instructions for filling up the Punjabi University application form:      

• Visit the Punjabi University's official website.
• Choose the Course Category in Admissions.
• Fill up the necessary personal information.
• Use one of the following methods to make a payment : 

- Online Debit/Credit Card/ Net Banking

- Pay-in-slip of State Bank of Patiala

- Punjabi University Cashier Receipt (Only at Patiala Campus)

• Now go to Admissions and click on Application form.
• Login through the User name and password.
• Provide all the information asked and then click on the save button.
• If the candidate finds any mistake in the form and wants to make correction then it can be done by clicking on Edit button, but this facility is available for a limited period of time.
• Take the printout of the Form and keep it for future reference.

Steps to Apply for UG Courses in Affiliated Colleges of Punjabi University:

• Submit the Online Application-cum-Admission Form through the official portal.
• Obtain the Login ID and Password on the registered mobile number.
• Use the student dashboard to select College/ Courses of your choice. A candidate can apply for 10 different Course-College combinations. 
• Upon locking of choices, the application will be forwarded to the respective colleges.
• Once locked, choices cannot be edited. However, the list of college-course selection can be added in future also.

Note: A Non-Refundable, one time Online Application Processing charges of Rs 150 (Rs 100 for SC/ ST Candidates) -must be deposited at the time of admission in the concerned colleges.

B.Tech programmes are available at Punjabi University for four years in four primary subjects. Every academic year, applications are welcomed in the month of May. The eligibility requirements and selection criteria are detailed below:

• Only online submissions of the application form are permitted.
• The application cost is Rs 2000 for candidates in the reserved category and INR 3000 for general category applicants.

A number of M.A. programmes are available at Punjabi University in the humanities and social sciences, languages, applied arts, etc. Every academic year, it welcomes applicants for the course in the month of May.

• The application cost for all M.A. programmes is Rs. 700 for applicants from the Reserved category and Rs. 1000 for those from the General category.
• A department-specific aptitude exam will be used by the university to determine admission to the M.A. TV and Film Producing programme.

The B.A. in a variety of humanities and languages as well as the B.Sc. in mathematics are both offered at Punjabi University. Each course lasts for three years. Applicants can obtain the application or admission form from the university's website starting in April or May if they want to enrol in any of the courses listed below.

• In addition to English, Punjabi, and general studies as primary courses, candidates who want to pursue a B.A. with honours in social sciences are required to study four additional electives from the following list: economics, history, political science, public administration, and sociology.
• All of the aforementioned courses provide direct admission without an entrance exam.
• Candidates in the general category must pay a fee of Rs. 1000, while those in the reserved category must pay a cost of Rs. 700.
• The appropriate Department will host the dance audition test.

The Punjabi University provides B.Pharm, BTTM, BHM, BPT, and B.A. LLB programmes. All of the courses last four years, although the B.A. LLB programme lasts five years, and the BPT programme lasts four and a half years. You may get an application form from the university's website.

• Except for B.A. LLB, where admissions will be based on State Level Counseling, other Punjabi University  courses have direct admission without an entrance exam.
• Candidates in the general category must pay a fee of Rs 1000, while those in the reserved category must pay Rs 700.

The departments of Management, Commerce, Science, Humanities, and Technology at Punjabi University provide integrated programmes lasting 5 and 6 years. Throughout the months of April and May, the sale of application forms officially starts.

• Except for the M.Com integrated Hons., which requires an entrance test from the university, admission to the programme is direct and exam-free.
• The application cost is Rs 1700 for applicants in the general category and Rs 1400 for those in the reserved category.
• The university also provides lateral entrance to all of the integrated B.Tech programmes.

MCA and MBA programmes of a two-year length are offered by Punjabi University. The University's Entrance Test will be used to determine admission to these courses based on student performance on it.

• For the MBA Dual Degree and MBA International Business programmes, there are no reservations for the available seats.
• MCA and MBA regular admissions will be based on entrance tests administered by the university, and their application forms must be completed online.
• The MCA application fee is Rs 1400 for candidates from the reserved category and Rs 2000 for those from the general category.
• The MBA programme has a 3500 rupee application fee.

Information and library sciences, physical education, pharmacy, and physiotherapy are among the fields where Punjabi University provides a range of postgraduate degrees.

• All courses have direct admission and don't require entrance tests.
• The application cost is Rs. 1000 for candidates in the general category and Rs. 700 for applicants in the reserved category.
• B.Lib.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. programmes last a year each.

In 15 fields, Punjabi University provides M.Sc. programmes. All of the courses last for two years. The university also provides full-time and part-time M.Tech programmes in four different fields. Those who have been chosen must show up for counselling on a set day.

• The application cost for all M.Sc. programmes is Rs 1000 for candidates in the general category and Rs 700 for applicants in the reserved category.
• For applicants in the general category, the application cost for the M.Sc. (Honors) in Biotechnology and the M.Sc. (Honors) in Microbial & Food Technology is Rs 1700; for candidates in the reserved category, it is Rs 1400.
• The same qualifying requirements apply to part-time studies, which last three years.
• The application cost for M.Tech programmes is Rs 1700 for candidates in the general category and Rs 1400 for those in the reserved category.

Law programmes at Punjabi University are available in both morning and evening sessions for undergraduate and graduate degrees. In both the morning and evening shifts, it provides LL.M. and LL.B. programmes.

• All other courses require an entrance test for admission.
• Online submission of the application form is required.

All B.Tech and integrated B.Tech specialities are open to lateral entrance at Punjabi University. Throughout the month of May, applicants can get an online application and admission form. Before sending the application, candidates must make sure it is accurate and comprehensive in every way.

• All other courses have direct admission without a test. 
• For admission to the second year of the B.Tech Engineering degree, a maximum of 10% of the total sanctioned intake, or 18 seats, shall be made available to engineering diploma holders.
• Candidates from the general category must pay Rs 1000 while those from the reserved category must pay Rs 700.
• Calculating the sum of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and one subject with higher marks will be used to determine if a candidate meets the minimum eligibility standard of 60% in the event that the entire number of marks is not included in the candidate's DMC.
• However the grades earned in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and English will be used to create the merit list.
