Bharathiyar College of Engineering & Technology - BCET

Bharathiyar College of Engineering and Technology (BCET), Karaikal, U.T. of Puducherry was set up in 1997 to offer programs in the field of engineering education in the country. The college is the epitome of the vision of its founder Shri. M.K. Rajagopalan. The college is affiliated to Pondicherry University (A Central University), and approved by AICTE. The campus is located in Thiruvettakudy village, 10 km away from Karaikal town. The college is housed in a sprawling 25 acre complex with the state of the art infrastructure facilities. The library of the college has a reading ambiance with a stock of over 34,000 books and subscription to more than 370 journals. The various laboratories in the college are equipped with the required facilities in terms of equipments, machineries, gadgets and work space and updated in accordance with the syllabi prescribed by the Pondicherry University. The college has well furnished class rooms, seminar halls, auditorium, sports & games ground, an indoor games hall and a hygienic canteen. The college has a committed Principal and dedicated faculty with an urge to mould students as products desired by the industry and society. The college imparts technical education through a careful blend of academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities all of which are aimed at wholesome personality development of students. The national level student’s symposium is a regular annual event organized by all the departments in the college. In addition conferences, seminars, workshops and industrial tour are organized for the benefit of staff and students.

The Training and Placement cell (T & P cell) is headed by a senior professor and assisted by additional placement officer. The Placement Officers along with the student representatives identify suitable industries for inplant training and project work. The expectations from the recruiters are very high to suit the requirements in today’s competitive world. Therefore the T & P cell organizes career development program every year for the final year students by inviting renowned HRD consultants to the college. The T & P cell also helps the all students to be equipped for campus interviews by having group discussions, mock interviews and aptitude tests. The Placement Officers also visit industries and invite them for campus placements. Many of our students are placed in leading software companies like CTS, TCS and INFOSYS, and core companies like TVS-Sundaram Clayton Ltd., L & T and Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

The Central Library of Bharathiyar College of Engineering and Technology was established with thousand volumes and limited number of journals and periodicals in the year 1997. Now it is grown as Central information resource center for the college, the library accommodates with good collection of nearly thirty-five thousand books, International & National and online journals , good infrastructure with air condition reading hall. Based on the AICTE norms the library has been enhancing the facilities to the students and faculties for the past eighteen years. Every year the library adds books and journals as per the requirement of AICTE, with this facility the library is rendering number of services to the users through automation with the quality software (Auto Lib). The major strength of the library is good number of text and reference books collection based on the Pondicherry University syllabus.

Apart from the book collection central library has subscribed online InfoTrac journals, national journals and periodicals, institutional membership of DELNET, (Developing Library Network- New Delhi),

Central Library has a separate wing for Digital Library and audio visual section with the good collection of CDROMs and DVDs, students project reports, back volumes of national and international journals are additional collection in the library. Reprographic and printing facilities are available for the customers. With these Central library infrastructures support students have achieved academic excellence in the University examinations, competitive examinations and placement.
