The college started functioning during the academic year 2010-11. It is run by Sree Narayana Guru Trust constituted by the SNDP Yogam, Kottayam Union. The trust is committed to the objectives of promoting equality, fraternity and secularism based on the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru. Committed to charitable and social work in noble ways, ensuring the betterment of the marginalized sections of the society. The trust upholds the philosophy of ‘Progress Through Education’ and ‘Emancipation for all’, through it. GISAT offers B.Tech Degree programme in five branches of engineering; viz, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering. The intake in each branch is 60. Engineering diploma holders are admitted to the third semester of the B.Tech course under the lateral entry scheme. G I S A T is located in a beautiful landscape of 12 acres at Vennimala, about 10 km east of Kottayam town. The scenery of the surroundings creates an ideal atmosphere for learning and an eco-friendly environment for creative thinking as well as entertainment. Vennimala is depicted with several legends.The famous Kapila Maharshi is believed to have lived in this famous hill. Taking the order of Lord Rama, his brother Lakshmana defeated the demons who harassed the ascetics lived here. Hence, this place is also known as ‘Vijayadri’.
