Institute of Indian Culture, situated in the picturesque location of Gyan Ashram Campus, Mahakali Caves Road, Andheri East, Mumbai 93 is a research centre – cum – library founded by the famous anthropologist Dr. Stephen Fuchs. The institute seeks to carry on the legacy of great scholars who have contributed greatly to the growth of Anthropology worldwide. It situates itself in the anthropological tradition spearheaded by Dr. Wilhelm Schmidt of Vienna who was a major contributor to the distinct theoretical position of ‘kulturkreis’ (culture-circle) theory in the diffusionist school of anthropology. Dr. Stephen Fuchs was a student of Dr. Schmidt. Institute of Indian Culture (IIC) works with a vision towards providing reliable and researched data on Indian culture, society and religion, with the goal of building a just and humane society. It works in collaboration with other research institutes who share the same vision. Institute of Indian Culture is owned, funded and operated by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in the service of the civil society and the Indian nation. It seeks to engage with the plural identities that have given shape to the Indian nation, with particular focus on communities on the margins. Over the years the Faculty members of IIC have published about 50 books and over 1000 articles. The Institute has been hosting local, national and international seminars and workshops on different subjects.

Institute of Indian Culture Placements
Institute of Indian Culture is situated at Gyan Ashram Campus, on the Mahakali Caves Road. The nearest bus stop is Sher-e-Punjab Bus stop on Mahakali Caves Road. It is situated beside Sacred Heart Church and across Canossa Primary School. The Library at IIC is a reference library. We invite scholars, academicians, students and members of the general public to avail of the reference facilities at our library. Being a reference library, IIC library does not have books lending facility.
