Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behavior - IPHB Goa - IPHB
The Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behaviour (IPHB) was established as an independent entity on 8th December 1980, after integration of the Mental Hospital which was functioning under the Directorate of Health Services since July 1957 and the Department of Psychiatry of the Goa Medical College (GMC) functioning since 1968. At the time of integration the IPHB hospital premises were at Altinho, Panaji-Goa. The IPHB was shifted to a newly built premises admeasuring 27.60 Hectares of land on 28th May 2001, in close proximity with the Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim-Goa. The Institute of Psychiatric and Human Behavior, Bambolim, Goa is a part of the establishment of Goa Medical College which deals with the treatment and investigation of mentally ill patients.Posting students in clinics and interns,as a part of the MBBS course, is also done here. It is approximately a kilometer away from GMC opposite Bambolim Church, a landmark. The IPHB primarily seeks to provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative mental health services to the people of Goa and its neighbouring states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. At present, the bed strength of the Hospital is 190. IPHB has closed wards as well as open wards for male and female patients separately. In open wards patients have to be accompanied by relatives or caretakers.

IPHB has two Clinical Units of 95 beds each for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree and Diploma courses like MD & DPM approved by Medical Council of India. IPHB has three post graduate guides recognized by the Goa University. Besides imparting lectures in Psychiatry to Under-Graduate/MBBS Students of Goa Medical College, lectures in Post Basic B.Sc. to the Nursing students of the Goa Institute of Nursing Education and Private Nursing Institutions are also conducted by IPHB. IPHB also undertakes training in clinical psychology to M.A. (Psychology) students of St. Xavier's College, Mapusa.
