Modern College is affiliated to the Manipur University. Modern College, established on the 8th August 1963 and spreading over 15 acres of grassy green land is situated in the Imphal East District Head quarter of Manipur state. The College with a scenic beauty of hills in the background is located close to the District Police Head quarter, Deputy Commissioner Complex and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.The Modern College is located at Porompat, Imphal – East District close to the District Police Head Quarter, Deputy Commissioner Complex and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS).The college created history being the first college in Manipur to have been assessed and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).The College was awarded B-Grade vide letter No.NAAC/A & A/outcome-194/2005, dated February 28, 2005. The College has also been re-accredited (second phase) by the NAAC in October, 2013 and awarded “B” grade.The college has boys’ hostel providing accommodation to 40 students. A hostel for girls is under construction. Students can apply for Hostel accommodation only after admission. The College is trying to promote education through ICT ( Information Communication Technology ). All the departments have computer facility with broadband internet connection. Students can avail the facility of on-line submission of application forms for different jobs and Competitive examinations.

ZOOLOGY AWARD :-Smt. E. Banabati Devi, Retd. Head of Zoology department of the college, instituted an award for meritorious Zoology students under the name " ElangbamBanabati Merit Award" to be given to the best graduate in Zoology Honours.

GEOGRAPHY AWARD:- Dr. Th. Rajen, Head of Geography department of Modern College donated an award for meritorious Geography students in memory of his late parents under the name "ThoudamManikchand and Thoudam (O) TombimachaLeima Award" to be given to the best graduate in Geography Honours".
