The Institute is managed by "Harijana Vidyarthi Udharaka Sangham", a society meant for the welfare of the under privileged. The society was formed in 1938 by Late. Padmasri Nedurumalli Balakrishna Reddy for the uplift and development of the poor and the deprived, including untouchables. H.V.U.S. procured about 200 acres of land near Gudali village in Vakadu Mandal of Nellore District in the State of Andhra Pradesh and named the place as Vidyanagar with the intention of establishing Schools, High Schools, Degree college, B.Ed college, Medical and Engineering colleges to impart education that is relevant to the rural needs. Sri Balakrishna Reddy's nephews, Sri Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy and Sri Nedurumalli Padmanabha Reddy, gave shape to their uncle's dreams establishing the Institute of Science and Technology aptly christened "Nedurumalli Balakrishna Reddy Institute of Science and Technology" in the year 1979.

NBKRIST’s Training, Placement and Development Cell plays a critical role in networking graduating students with the industry. It prepares the students for the process of recruitment and simultaneously creates awareness among companies about the recruitment opportunities. Potential recruiters are given structural support for scheduling interviews, hosting seminars, group discussions and written tests. A continuous training is given to the students in order to enrich them with the required inputs for making them employable in industries and MNCs. The Department has collaboration with TEAM LEASE, a staffing company in giving training to non-IT people. Arranges special lectures by experienced persons from different walks of life to help students in career planning.
