Bhawanipur Global Campus, The School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, organised a two-day celebration from April 16 to April 17, 2026, to mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites, also known as World Heritage Day. The event aimed to spread awareness about the importance of preserving cultural heritage while encouraging active student participation through academic and creative activities.
The celebration included a range of competitions that gave students an opportunity to showcase their creativity, communication skills, and understanding of heritage-related themes. Students and faculty members participated enthusiastically throughout the programme, making the event both engaging and educational.
One of the major highlights of the celebration was a seminar based on this year’s global theme, “Emergency Response for Living Heritage in Contexts of Conflicts and Disasters.” The seminar focused on the challenges involved in protecting cultural heritage during crises such as natural disasters and conflicts, while also discussing strategies for preservation and restoration.
The seminar featured eminent speakers including Dr Gautam Mukhopaddhay and Mr Pawan Jaju. Their sessions provided students with valuable insights into heritage conservation, tourism, and the importance of safeguarding historical and cultural assets for future generations.
The initiative reflected the institution’s focus on experiential learning and industry-oriented education. By organising such events, Bhawanipur Global Campus continues to encourage students to develop a deeper understanding of heritage preservation and its growing relevance in the tourism and hospitality sector.
In today’s fast-changing tourism industry, the role of a tour guide has evolved far beyond simply sharing facts and information. Modern travellers now seek meaningful, engaging, and memorable experiences that help them connect with the culture, history, and heritage of a destination. Recognising this growing industry demand, Bhawanipur Global Campus, School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, recently organised a workshop on Tour Guiding and Interpretation Skills to equip students with practical knowledge and industry-relevant expertise.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Satyajit Sinha, who highlighted the importance of effective communication, storytelling, and interpretation in the tourism and hospitality sector. He explained that professional tour guiding is not just about presenting historical facts but also about creating immersive experiences that leave a lasting impact on visitors.
During the interactive session, students were introduced to various aspects of heritage interpretation, communication techniques, audience engagement, and the responsibilities of a professional tour guide. Dr. Sinha also discussed how strategic communication and presentation skills can help guides make tours more informative, interactive, and enjoyable for travellers from different cultural backgrounds.
The workshop aimed to provide students with a better understanding of the practical challenges and opportunities within the tourism industry. Through real-world examples and discussions, participants gained insights into how skilled tour guides contribute to enhancing travellers’ overall experiences while promoting cultural awareness and responsible tourism. The initiative reflects the institution’s continued focus on skill-based learning and industry-oriented education, preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the hospitality and tourism sector.
Bhawanipur School of Design recently organised a master session on Character Design and Visual Storytelling featuring Savio Mascarenhas, offering students valuable insights into the world of comics, illustration and creative storytelling. The interactive session introduced students to the process of creating memorable characters and building engaging visual narratives. Drawing from his experience in the comic book industry, Savio Mascarenhas shared his creative journey and explained how strong storytelling and design thinking shape impactful characters and stories.
One of the major highlights of the session was his discussion on the evolution of Shikari Shambu, a character he has been developing since 1997, along with the creation of Little Shambu. Through these examples, students gained a deeper understanding of character development, visual expression and narrative structure.
Apart from his contributions to the comic industry, Savio Mascarenhas is also recognised as a TEDx speaker known for his talk on visual art learning and the role of storytelling in education and creative communication. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, especially those interested in illustration, animation and visual communication. The initiative reflected Bhawanipur School of Design’s focus on experiential learning and industry interaction, helping students connect classroom concepts with real-world creative practices.
Faculty members noted that such sessions play an important role in encouraging young designers to explore storytelling as both an artistic and professional skill in the evolving design industry.
