7 space labs to be set up in Indian educational institutions: According to a recent report, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (INSPACe) is looking to set up seven space laboratories, known as Antariksh Prayogshala , at various higher education institutes in India. These labs are to be based in academic institutions that qualify and will offer students practical experiences in space science, engineering, and technology.

This move will help to create a better link between learning in the classroom and working in space, and students will have access to advanced infrastructure and training that is aligned with industry. The report highlights that each regionally based chosen institution will be financially supported by INSPACe to establish these labs, and the funding is expected to cover a major portion of the project costs. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen India’s space education ecosystem and build a skilled workforce for the expanding space sector.

The Institutions interested in hosting an Antariksh Prayogshala are required to submit proposals as per the Request for Proposal (RfP) issued by INSPACe. After selection, these labs will serve as innovation hubs, where students, researchers, and industry members can work together on applied space Research and Development (R&D) projects.

The availability of dedicated space laboratories within university campuses is expected to increase the interest in studies in space technologies and give students access to real applications early on in their education, thus improving research and employment possibilities. More information concerning the shortlisted institutions and timelines for implementation will be announced as the programme develops.
