
A committee has been set up by the UGC to look into the issue of off-campus centres of some of the deemed universities without the prior approval of the UGC or that of the HRD ministry.
The committee comprises of UGC members such as Prof H Devaraj, Prof Mohammad Miyan, Prof Sanjay Govind Dhande and Dr K N Shanti in addition to a member convenor as per the minutes of a meeting held last month.
Many leading institutions that are deemed universities have set up off-campus centres and that too without any prior approvals. Hence they have been issued notices by the UGC. Going by the minutes of the meeting held last month another vital decision taken was to set up chairs in various universities in Indian Classical languages of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Odia.
