CBSE Board Exams: A high-level meeting was held on February 18 with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewing preparations for conducting the board exams of CBSE Class 10 and 12 twice a year. The Secretary of School Education, CBSE Chairperson, and senior officers from the Ministry and CBSE participated in the meeting in which examination reforms were discussed to bring down student stress. After the meeting, Pradhan said that creating a stress-free learning environment for students is a key focus of the government and examination reforms were an important part of it.

Dharmendra Pradhan write on X (formerly Twitter):

February 18's discussions represent an important step in making plans for the CBSE board exams to be held twice a year, a step already hinted by the Ministry. In this regard, CBSE will place the draft framework for conducting biannual board exams for public consultation soon. Pradhan asserts that this move also conforms to the major points of the National Education Policy (NEP) and will enable students to be more flexible in attempting board exams.

But under the new system, students will not have to take both exams, with appearing twice a year being optional. For example, those who do not perform well in the first attempt will get another opportunity during the same academic year, following the present format of JEE Main. The gap between the two exams will be fixed, giving students enough time to prepare.

The Board had refuted such reports that earlier said CBSE might not be in position to hold board exams twice in a year. In an official statement made on X, CBSE stated that the education ministry had not been informed of any such concerns from the school. From the 2025-26 academic session, the biannual board exam scheme is expected to be introduced, giving students certain flexibility and reducing the pressure of exams. Public consultation will finalize further details.
