Expert Insights on JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Mathematics Last Minute Preparation
Here are some insightful questions from CollegeDekho News Desk to Ragi Ramu, designed to help students fine-tune their last-minute preparation:
CollegeDekho: Which Mathematics topics should students prioritise in their last days of preparation to maximise scoring potential in JEE Main 2026 Session 1?
Ragi Ramu: In the final days of preparation, students should prioritise high-weightage and conceptually stable topics instead of starting new chapters. Calculus must be the top focus, especially in Areas Such as Limits, continuity and differentiability, Definite Integrals, Area Under Curves, and Differential Equations, as these topics carry consistent weight. Algebra topics, such as matrices, Quadratic Equations, Complex Numbers, and Probability, are highly scoring. Coordinate Geometry and Vectors & 3D Geometry should also be revised thoroughly for direct, marks-fetching questions.
CollegeDekho: How do you recommend students balance time between revision of high-weightage topics and solving previous years’ JEE questions effectively?
Ragi Ramu: Students should follow a 60% revision and 40% PYQ practice strategy. Start by revising formulas and key concepts, then solve the previous 5–7 years’ JEE Main questions from the same topics. Analysing mistakes after practice is essential, as understanding errors matters more than quantity. Timed practice helps improve speed and accuracy.
CollegeDekho: What are common pitfalls aspirants make in the Mathematics section during last-minute revision, and how can they avoid them?
Ragi Ramu: The biggest mistake is starting new or weak chapters at the last moment, which increases confusion and stress. Another common issue is memorising formulas without understanding their application, leading to errors in slightly twisted questions. Many students also ignore revision and jump straight into mock tests without analysing mistakes. To avoid these pitfalls, students should stick to familiar topics, revise concepts daily, and maintain a mistake notebook. Avoid over-practising and ensure proper rest to keep the mind fresh.
CollegeDekho: Can you suggest a quick revision strategy or checklist for high-yield mathematics concepts that students must revisit the night before the exam?
Ragi Ramu:
The night before the exam should focus on light, strategic revision. Go through a compact formula sheet covering key topics like Calculus, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, and Vectors & 3D. Revise a few solved PYQs for confidence, avoid heavy practice, sleep well, and stay mentally calm for better performance.
